To be honest from my experience new teachers are not informed about the Step Resource. It was only by taking this course that I have become aware of them.

Now that I know about them and how useful they are I would recommend that STEP resources be introduced to new teachers and permanent teachers at the beginning of the school year. At least an introduction. Teachers who would like to know more could attend an after school PD session or a Summer Institute Session. There are two members of the ESL department who have Step training at my school if they are willing to they could run a lunch and learn session or take up part of a staff meeting to help educate staff members.

This information from what I have witnessed is shared casually between teachers who teach the same students. There doesn't seem to be a concrete place where ELL information is stored.

This is a problem to rectify this I would have the information stored electronically on our school ONE Note Drive and hard copies of ELL profiles in the ESL Office (if there is one) if not I would put a copy in their OSRs in the office. It is really important that planning time teachers are aware of the ELLs that they are teaching so that they can accommodate them as well during their lessons.

At transition meetings we have a colour coding system to group the different types of learners in our class. We are not exactly using the Step levels during the meetings but teachers need to know the student levels and how independent they are when placing ELLs.

Really more time needs to be devoted to transition meetings. Usually we just get 15-30minutes to decide on groupings for the following year. It is important that time is given to do this.
