Personally and professionally, measurement is critical when I want to see change. At our organization, we want to see transformative change in individuals and our community. That may be a quantitative number or a qualitative interview. It becomes meaningful when there is a baseline and change is measured as a difference in that baseline.

I look a lot of metrics both professionally and personally. In my personal life, I like to track my sleep and my screen time on social media to make sure I'm balanced. Professionally, I run our 4 social media accounts so I'm constantly looking at the analytics as we try to boost our engagement. I think meaningful measurement is something that you don't just measure, look at the number and move on. Meaningful measurement should be a process where you analyze what you've measured and figure out how to continue to improve

We develop meaningful measurement by designing with empathy and clarity. That means co-creating indicators with those closest to the work, centering equity in what we define as success, and layering numbers with narrative. A good measure doesn’t just tell us how much—it helps us understand for whom, why, and what’s next.
