Why would the British colonize Canada?

The British colonized Canada in the first place due to curiousity. The British wanted to increase their wealth. The British were interested in riches such as gold and other valubles. Many merchants dreamed of making fortunes in the "New World". The British also colonized Canada because they wanted to create a perfect land, they dreamed of creating a land with freedom, equality and opurtunities for onlyEnglish people. They colonized Canada because they wanted more farming land. The British also colonized Canada because they wanted to convert the First Nations to Christians. When they would convert the First Nations to Christians, they taught the First Nations Christian beliefs. They colonized Canada because they were to establish schools, churches and hospitals. Another reason they colonized is because, at the time, there was wars, and overcrowding. The British wanted to control the fur trade, because at the time, the French were controlling the fur trade. In Britian, Animals and the furs were very popular. This relates to Britiish displacement because, if the British had not decided to colonize Canada, and decided to stay in England, Canada would have stayed as an Aboriginal country

Bibliography

http://www.americaslibrary.gov/jb/colonial/jb_colonial_subj.html

https://www.slmc.uottawa.ca/?q=british_colonization

Books:

Emerging Loyalties

Canada Revisited 7

The Missionaries

The Fur Traders

Why would the British colonize?

The British began colonizing in the 1600. They began colonizing mainly because of their need to trade rather than getting control over the country by fighting. When the British started trading with the aboriginals for fresh food, they learned that the aboriginals had furs from the animals they hunted. That is when the British started to trade with the aboriginal people. Another reason the British wanted to colonize is because they wanted their country to be the most powerful country. They would also get more attention from other countries because their population size would increase. By 1921, the British Empire ruled a population of between 470 and 570 million people, approximately one-quarter of the world's population. Then the British would gain a lot of benefits from the population size because when more people see that their country is wealthier then their country then more people will come and they will get more rich . In the 16th century, England was a poor country. When they began colonizing they started to get immediate (occurring or done at once) profits. That is how their country started to become the most richest country and powerful country. These are the reasons why the British would colonize in North America that is now known as Canada.

Youtube Video:

Talks about the introduction

https://youtu.be/w824X4vfrVc

Talks about what countries did the British colonized

https://youtu.be/KNEuQPAlg1A

Picture:

http://energysecurity.us/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/1775-map-of-North-America.

Why was the fur trade important to the British?

The fur trade was important to the British because the British were in need of the resources they got from trading with the Aboriginal people. The items that the British traded were point blankets and beaver fur. Point blankets was a popular item in the fur trade. It was used as a robe or it was sewn in to a coat. The British also traded beaver fur. The beaver fur was used to make hats and it was used to decorate clothing. Beaver pelts was a very valuable item that they traded. The British made money from trading resources. Their fur trade group was called the Brigade. Trading in pioneer days was different from modern days. For example, back in the day the British traded goods for pelts. The pelts the British got came from the aboriginal people. Pelts were really expensive and useful so the British traveled long distances to get pelts. Now, they sell the pelts for money. The British raised animal on fur farms. The similarities of then and now are that the British trapped wild animals. The British relied on beaver fur because beaver fur was really expensive. The animals that they trapped were used for fur and food. The British were selling pelts to countries in Europe and Asia. This is why the fur trade was important to the British. This relates to British displacement because the British were displaced from England to Europe and Asia to trade with the aboriginal people.

Websites:

https://some.uottawa.ca/?q=British-colonization

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/British-colonization_of_the_americans

www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ra

Books:

Canada Revisited 7

The Fur Trader
