The brain is driving mode of normal, causing us to forget.

Dissociate or shut down during a task that seems unachievable happens frequently with students.

While I was reading this I thought of the student we have that do have community support and can rely on that to be both preventative and reactive to traumatic events. This is the opposite of what many students may encounter and that may bring the importance of the community of school to aid in healing. -Lacey

I found it interesting that a person with trauma can feel most comfortable when they experience the "preferred" worldview...i.e. isolation. Challenging these beliefs becomes destabilizing because core beliefs are challenged and provide misery because of the uncertainty.

I agree with the anology of the hangers. My own tendancy is to advocate for returning students to their previous levels or desired levels of functioning and the hanger example brought that to life for me. - Lacey

How can we support students when they are feeling comfortable with their "preferred" worldview. For example, I have a student that has been neglected and would rather sit in the hall alone than do any work at all. How can I challenge his core belief without causing more misery?

I would also like to see those slides closer. The explanation of how to address trauma with teaching parents was very helpful. Making the information accessible is the first step in creating a bond with parents and community members. -Lacey
