<title>Cultural Comparison Narrative Rebecca Lobianco 18929297 In the Skype call with my group, I found listening to everyone’s cultural self-assessments very insightful as there were many differences as well as similarities. These differences and similarities stemmed from the different aspects of our cultures that we thought impacted and influenced our health the most. One of the factors that was similar across everyone’s cultural self assessment included age and developmental status. I believe this is due to every member being approximately the same age and therefore in the same developmental stage- varying between the females and males in the group. This factor impacts our health as we can all agree we feel that we are becoming more mature and becoming more part of an adult society where we have more roles and responsibilities put on us. We are also developing physically to our peak. A key factor that was significantly different between myself and some of the other members specifically those that were not born in Australia and lived in China was our national origin as well as cultural values and belief systems. Members who lived in Hong Kong had quite a strict culture on receiving a high level of education. They also had beliefs about the food they ate. This comes from their parents who feed them a range of soups and healthy dishes that are good for their wellbeing. This differs from both myself and the other members of the group from Melbourne as we have freedom in our food choices however had quite strict traditions that have been brought down from our grandparents that we can choose to follow or not. I was surprised about the amount of freedom that the members from Hong Kong have about their day to day activities as well as the high access to education and healthcare facilities. My beliefs and thoughts about the cultures of the members from Australia were as I thought with us all experiencing the same government and health care and education systems however only differing in our own separate family traditions and beliefs. I learnt that communicating with people from diverse cultural backgrounds is very significant and important in understanding who someone is and where they come from. This can be very important as a future health professional as every patient’s case will be different and although easy to have a closed-mind about certain situations, having an open mind is critical in every individual case. </title>
