This the spider activity from Leonardo da Vinci school in Bucharest,Romania 😄
First we went outside to find, analyze and photograph spider webs
Then, we created spiders from stones and play dough in class (the kids also painted the stones)
Afterwards, we went outside again, gathered some twigs and created some spider webs for our spiders 🤗

As an introduction to this theme, we went on a field trip in a natural place close to our school. We listened carefully to the sounds that we could hear from that point and recorded them. When we went back to the classroom, we listened to the recording and tried to recognise each sound. We created pictures that represented each sound and combined them in a short film. Then, we watched a video with the most common birds of our region and the sounds they make. Each student tried to make the sound of a bird, in combination to a movement. We learnt and sang a child-song that refers to an owl. We went outdoors, collected branches and grass to weave a nest for the birds. At the end, when we were on an excursion, we visited a zoo and the children went directly to the section of the birds, trying to listen and recognise them. They also asked to record their sounds.

In the classroom we started a discussion about the trees and the students mentioned their importance for the life on the planet. Then we saw how many of the things around us were made of trees. We came to the conclusion that we use a lot of paper in the classroom so we watched films about the process of making paper in the industries. We decided that we want to find other ways too so we took all of the paper that the school was collecting for recycling and we made "our own recycling industry", as the students said. We cut the paper in small pieces, we put them in the water, mixed them in a blender, drained them off on a sieve and put them in plastic balls to form them in bowls. Now they are ready to plant flowers in them! The students were extremely happy with the process, coming to the conclusion that "we can save trees", "trees are happy with us", "we can be a factory that doesn't pollute the environment"!

The 5th of June is the World Environment Day. To celebrate it, our students cleaned the school yard. Each class planted a tree which the students will take care of. The students of the class B1 planted flowers in the pots we made out of recycled paper.

WE TAKE SILKWORM EGGS TO MONITOR THEIR LIFE CYCLE. WE WAITED FOR THE EGGS TO MATURE IN THE SUITABLE ENVIRONMENT. WHEN THE CHILDREN HATCH THE EGGS, THEY COLLECT THE LEAVES AND FEED THEM EVERY DAY. AND ONE DAY WE SAW THEM KNITTING KOKO. WE IMAGINED WHAT KIND OF BUTTERFLY IT WOULD COME OUT OF AND CREATED PICTURES. AT THE END OF THE ACTIVITY, CHILDREN WRAPPED THEMSELVES IN SUITABLE MATERIALS AND Dramatized THE LIFE CYCLE.

First, we went on a forest trip with the kids. We observed birds in nature and listened to their sounds. The children recorded the sounds of the birds using the teacher's phone. When we returned to school, we listened to their voices again and made music similar to bird sounds. In order to hear this beautiful bird music more, we built bird nests with our families and placed them in the garden of our school.

For our activity, we first examined the structure of trees. We discussed what is made from trees. We learned that trees are used to make paper. We discussed what we could do for the trees. We designed a common flower pot using egg boxes with the children and planted pine saplings in it.

We read books about silkworms. We observed silkworm eggs. We collected fresh mulberry leaves for our hatched caterpillars. We watched our caterpillars grow. We witnessed them making cocoons. We observed our silkworms emerging from the cocoon. It was a great experience. Afterwards, we made a drama of our observations.
