I found this chapter to be very beneficial to students and even teachers. The chapter covered multiple activities to do when teacher integers, exponents and real numbers. Within the chapter I was able to pick out some tips and notes to keep in mind if in the near future I ever teach the concept I will know how to address it as well as how to understand it. While reading and going through this chapter I found a better understanding of the real number system and exponents. I was able to discover some new learnings on ways to teach the topic as well as ways to make it engaging for students.

When reading this chapter I saw many things that would benefit me as a teacher. When teaching students about the classifying of numbers this chapter included lesson activities, explanations of teaching concepts, and student work examples. The lesson activities are very beneficial because seeing examples of how to get ideas across to students is very helpful with lesson planning. Along with activity ideas, the student example work is also extremely beneficial. Having the examples of student work helps to see just how a student might absorb a topic. Seeing how a student might take what you taught them and put it into action prepares you for what your students might put onto paper. Lastly, having explanations of teaching concepts is very nice to have in this chapter. Collaboration is a very important skill you learn when becoming a teacher. Using this book to get ideas on how to teach specific information is very similar to collaborating as teachers. This chapter overall offers many beneficial tools and is a great teaching tool for this math topic.

The chapter talks about the number system. It includes whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and integers. All of these numbers are considered rational numbers and rational numbers can be looked at as a fraction and a decimal. It goes into talking about Exponents. Exponents are an easy way to writing numbers. It goes into talk about the students need to explore with whole numbers before they use exponents with a variable. A whole number exponent is simply shorthand for repeating multiples of a number times itself. the chapter gives more information about real numbers and how students may become confused. The chapter gives ideas on how to help students out when doing problems and also gives you activities to present to the students. The chapter goes in depth about scientific notation and integers. Dealing with integers it showed how it could be positive or negative. It goes into real numbers including whole, rational, irrational, and integers. The chapter has touched on a little bit of everything that is considered a real number. The chapter includes activities to teach, examples of student work, and how to challenge students a little more. It shows you a ton of information on how to help you students and why your students may become confused. Very good information through out the chapter.

While reading the chapter the the things that stuck out to me was how much it goes into detail about the number system. It gives you activities and shows you how students worked out problems. It gives you information about what students may find complicated and how to help them. It will benefit me when I become a teacher to try these same activities with them. It shows me how to work with students and what to teach them so they do not become confused. Reading the chapter helped me remember and understand real numbers better. Over all it was a good chapter and it showed me a ton of new information.
