My strengths in blood bank is working out panels. Once I got comfortable with the panels, I actually really enjoyed working on them. Again this was back in school and clinicals but have not worked in blood bank and solve a panel in real life.

My weakness is that I have not been in blood bank for a long period of time. I sometimes stumble on how to do things like DAT's etc. I can look it up and read the theories and get the samples done it just takes me longer because I usually have to reacquaint myself with how things are done. Some hospitals I have worked at only have blood bank via tube method, no analyzers. My new location will use an analyzer, that is also a weakness of mine but through careful study and practice I will get it.

My strengths are, I work well under pressure. I have been under the most dire circumstances where I have had to do multiple transfusions with various blood products and was able to do type and screens and crossmatches. I am also very good with antibody panels. I really like them, they are like puzzles that need to be solved.

I feel pretty confident with blood typing, panels, and DATs, but it has been a few years since I have practiced them. I remember a bit about which ones are cold vs. warm. I struggle with remembering how certain antibodies are affected by LISS and enzymes. I'm also very rusty on elution and autoantibodies.

I enjoy working in the blood bank; however, one significant weakness I face is the stress associated with the Massive Transfusion Protocol. The need to perform various procedures quickly and under pressure can be overwhelming, which adds to my anxiety in high-stakes situations.

I am typically an overthinker so blood bank itself can stress me out sometimes. I actually do the month end reports at my job. My duty is to review all of the paperwork to make it nothing needs to be corrected. I love the fact that sometimes blood bank can be a challenge.

Have only experienced tube testing - never have performed blood bank testing with automation.

ANTIBODY IDENTIFICATION

I feel very confident in my ability to complete Antibody ID panels, it was my favorite part of bloodbank in MLT school. They feel like you're solving a puzzle and I love being able to solve the mystery of what's there. I'm also really confident in the basics such as forward and reverse types, and in my general book knowledge of antigens and antibodies. I feel better about taking tests in blood bank than actually performing the test in a clinical setting.
