After arriving she was placed in the women's camp at Birkenau and suffered the normal humiliations of new arrivals. The veteran remains dormant until 4 years later, his ever growing heart for Mala strengthens and he could not bear the thought of her facing the same fate as the Jews in Auschwitz. June 24 1944 the escape is set, Mala dressed as a male prisoner carrying a lavatory pan awaits Edek. He gets his queue, emerging from a bunker Edek wipes off imaginable dust from his Rottenfuhrer’s uniform and they wait for the others. Jurek stopped in front of the SS man at regulation distance, executed a regulation about face and marched back. After returning to Auschwitz they were placed in bunker II and sentenced to hang. Edek was Hung on September 15, 1944, as for Mala she also died but as for how, no one really knows but reports say she cut herself with a razor and died either in or on the way to the crematorium. The story of Mala and Edek was realeased to the public after the testimony of Mrs. Raya Kagan, delivered on June 8, 1961, during Session 70 in the trial of Adolf Eichmann in Jerusalem.
