Throughout this video, many movie clips are shown. The movie that I have seen and stands out to me is the movie Unbroken, which is also the title of this clip. In this movie, an Olympic gold medalist runner is drafted in WWII and becomes a prisoner of war in Japan. The movie shows how he did not let hardships in the camps bring him down and how he persevered. What is a time in your life when you chose to rise up and not let others steer your path? What did you learn from this video or can take away from it?

In August, I attended Mid Penn Media Day along with the 2 other captains on the field hockey team. As we talked to reporters, the main message was: "How are you going to compensate for the loss of 10 seniors, 8 of them being starters?" I was expecting that, since that was the main question we heard since our season ended last year. A lot of people already gave up on the team, resolving that we would definitely not be as good as we have been in years past. After Media Day, they released their article about the predicted standings, and there we were, at #2, with Big Spring being #1. It was unnerving, and I was so angry, but I was motivated after the initial anger. I sent the article to my teammates, declaring that we would win the division for the 6th time in a row. Not only did we win the division, but we had a better record than last year. We did not lose any division games, and last year we lost twice. I was so proud of my team, because we didn't let anyone's beliefs about our talent get in the way of our goals.

This is a cool video for where I am right now in terms of swimming. Last season did not go the way I wanted it to and it was overall really disappointing. So going into this season, given that I didn't do well last year and this is my last year to improve, I have been pretty nervous for it. I have put a lot of hope into doing well and ultimately putting a lot of pressure on myself. However, I know that being nervous isn't going to help my times improve. If I actually want to finish my swimming career strong, I have to get over whatever fears of failure I have from last season and just focus on what I can do to make this year a good one.

This was a very inspirational video that talked a lot about not giving up and living every day like it's your last. I think these are very important mottos that everyone should live their life by. Another element from the video that I found important was when they said do not let your emotions control you. I know that for me, personally, my emotions some time take over and control all my actions. The overall message was that, as long as you keep your mind focused and never give up, you should be able to succeed at anything in life.

For a long time my parents wanted me to go to college in Pennsylvania, but I refused multiple times to even look at a school. I know that they wanted to create my future for me, but I knew, inside, that I was destined to go out of state for my future. Some people love Boiling Springs and wish to stay here, but I want to go to bigger places. I love meeting new people, gaining new perspectives, and living life to the fullest. I might have setbacks, but this video reinforces that I cannot give up when I face those. I may have to take a step back, but then I can easily take two steps, three steps, four steps, etc., forward. Nothing should- and can- stop me from achieving my dreams, I am steadfast.

I think that the video made some very good points about how humans respond to problems in there life. The narrator talks about how easy it is for anyone to feel good and act good during times of well being. But the tricky part is during times when you are not doing well. Humans naturally have a drive to survive and do better, but for some this is stronger than others. I think relating this to an Olympic athlete is a good comparison. Yes these athletes are often more naturally gifted than others in their sport, but what makes them the best is there drive to become better all the time. Because of this I do believe that fighting when your down is a true test of the human spirit.

I found this video to be inspirational, especially watching it as a high school senior. Trying to figure out what career to pursue and what path to take in life is challenging, and having people push you in different directions does not make it any easier. For myself, I knew I had to overcome any preferences that my family or friends had regarding my future because it ultimately is my decision. I also liked how the video was explaining that anyone can be happy if the situation is ideal, but the true test comes whenever something in life goes wrong. I often times think of this scenario and I want to know that my life and my relationships will be stable enough to get through harder times. Many different factors contribute to what I want in life, but overall I want to be happy.

The messages talked about in this video are important life lessons. One should always push toward his or her dreams and never get swayed by peer pressure to not work toward accomplishing their goals. It easy to say that one will never give up and always push for excellence, but it's easier said than done. During the actual time of adversity, it takes a strong, motivated individual to keep pushing and not give up. I think we all need to have this drive instilled in us to accomplish our dreams. The spirit to never give up during the hard times is very important to have and will help one succeed in all aspects of life.

I would say that most of my life I had to be the bigger person and not listen to other people. For as long as I can remember, my dad has worked in this school district and been in some position of leadership. With leadership, comes criticism. I have had to listen to criticism of my father all my life and choose to be the bigger person and not go and tell the person who said it to knock it off no matter how much I wanted to. With who he is as well though, I have had to live with people saying the phrase "oh he only got that because of who his dad is." You would not believe how many times I have heard that in my lifetime. I have had to rise up and not listen to that and bring me down and continue to work harder and hold myself to a higher standard so that I can say I worked hard for what I have.

I especially loved how it said that you choose to follow your dreams or ignore them and set yourself up for failure.

On principle I don't usually like motivational speeches because the result is sort of artificial. They definitely work though so there's certainly some merit to them.

I do like Steve Jobs. I feel like he's one of few people that lived in our lifetime that was truly visionary. To hear him give a speech or motivational advice is more effective that most other people since I know what he actually achieved and can gage the genuineness of his comments.

I also definitely agree that growth and good things in general happen after failure. It take challenges to define character.

Louis Zamperini is one of my favorite athletes because he impressed the world not with a great performance, but a great finish. He broke the record for the final lap of the 5000 and finished I believe 6 or 7 at the Berlin Olympics. During the war Zamperini faced countless horrors including 40 plus days stranded at sea, with no reason to hope. Then, already facing unimaginable torture Zamperini is captured and singled out in a POW camp as an Olympian. The leader of the camp tortures Zamperini attempting to get him to commit treason against his country and speak out in favor of the Japanese. Zamperini is relentless in his loyalty to his country even when any person would break after relentless torture. The will of Zamperini is tested finally when he is forced by the leader of the camp to hold a log over his head for hours, and Zamperini doesn't break before the leader of the camp, who is just standing their watching. Just like his last lap of the 5000 Louis always finished strong.

This video and the book Unbroken are amazing examples of determination. They show how one can succeed even in the midst of tremendous adversity. Being able to persevere despite overwhelming obstacles takes strength of characters. At some point in time, everyone wants to quite, but as my dad always told me, "Quitters never win, and winners never quit." Although this quote specifically relates to sports, it relates to life too. Having the courage to endure is what makes someone truly successful.

Interestingly enough, I have seen this video many times. However, I came across this video for other reasons relating to my long history of injuries, Throughout my high school career, I have dealt with more injuries than anyone I've ever come to know. I tore my right shoulder during my junior year, tore my left shoulder over the summer, broke two ribs during this past football season, and broke my thumb just recently. With all these injuries, I can;t tell you how much I miss going to the gym or just being active like any other normal 17-year-old kid. So, through all the pain and suffering, I resorted to motivational videos and stumbled across this particular one. Like I said in the last Friday Inspiration, I just want to be happy... That's all I want.
