Girl on Fire by Alicia Keys
I added "Girl on Fire" to my Hunger Games playlist because the lyrics remind me of when Cinna lit Katniss dress on fire to be like burning coal and she looked like she was on fire. The lyrics from the song stated, "She's just a girl and she's on fire. Hotter than a fantasy, lonely like a highway. She's living in a world and it's on fire. Filled with catastrophe, but she knows she can fly away." These lyrics make me think of the Hunger Games and the Capitol and how crazy it is it also makes me think about when Katniss and Peeta are wearing their burning outfits. The song also goes with how Katniss is going through the games she says she is lonely and that the Capitol is wrong and that they need to change. This is why I chose Girl on fire for my "The Hunger Games" playlist.

In the novel "The Hunger Games" a conflict that Katniss faced that changed her was when Prim's name was drawn out of the bowl during the reaping. In chapter 2 page 21 the novel, it stated, " There must have been some mistake. This can't be happening. Prim was one slip of paper in thousands! Her chances of being chosen so remote that I'd not even bothered to worry about her." She had an internal conflict with herself. This is a conflict for Katniss because she has to make the decision on what to do to make sure her sister is safe. She didn't even think that Prim would be picked so she had to think fast and help her sister. Since Prim's name was picked, Katniss decided to volunteer herself in Prim's place. As you can see this has impacted Katniss because now she has to compete in The Hunger Games.

Stronger (What Doesn't Kill You) by Kelly Clarkson
I added Stronger to my Hunger Games playlist because the lyrics remind me of how Katniss doesn't give up even when she is risking her life. The lyrics state, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. Stand a little taller. Doesn't mean I'm lonely when I'm alone. What doesn't kill you makes a fighter. Footsteps even lighter. Doesn't mean I'm over 'cause you're gone." This makes me think of when Katniss got stung by the Tracker Jackers and how she could have died and she knew that but she kept on going. In the novel it stated, " The poison from the stingers makes me wobbly, but I find my way back to my own little pool and submerge myself in the water, just in case any wasps are still on my trail." it also stated "The swelling. The pain. The ooze. Watching Glimmer twitching to death on the ground. It’s a lot to handle before the sun has even cleared the horizon." This shows that Katniss is like the song and how she could have died like Glimmer but she didn't and kept pushing. Even though she knew she could have given up because of the feeling of weirdness and pain.

Topic: Helping
One of the topics the author mentions in the novel is helping. The message the author was trying to express is, to do good for others, and it will come back to you in unexpected ways. I know this because in chapter 21 page 288 it stated, "Conflicting emotions cross Thresh’s face. He lowers the rock and points at me, almost accusingly. “Just this one time, I let you go. For the little girl. You and me, we’re even then. No more owed. You understand?” This shows that since Katniss helped Rue and did what she asked for in her final minutes of life and help her, Thresh spared Katniss because she did nice things to a little kid in his district. This proves that if you do nice things they will come around and back to you in nice ways.

In the novel "The Hunger Games" one of the conflicts mentioned is the conflict between Katniss and Peeta. In chapter 10 page 134 the novel states, " Peeta has only just stepped from his car when I slam my palms into his chest. He loses his balance and crashes into an ugly urn filled with fake flowers. The urn tips and shatters into hundreds of tiny pieces. Peeta lands in the shards, and blood immediately flows from his hands." This shows that Katniss didn't like what Peeta just did and pushed him for doing that. Katniss and Peeta have conflicts with each other for different and random things, and because of this, they have a weird relationship with each other which makes some parts of the book different if they didn't have conflicts between eachother.

Topic: Perseverance
One of the topics the authors mentioned in the novel is Perseverance. The message the author is trying to express is, when times are tough and loved ones are gone you still have to keep on going. I know this because in the novel in chapter 18 pages 233, 234, and 237 stated, “I’m going to. Going to win for both of us now,” I promise. I hear a cannon and look up. It must be for the boy from District 1. “Don’t go.” Rue tightens her grip on my hand." and "I step back and take a last look at Rue. She could really be asleep in that meadow after all. “Bye, Rue,” I whisper. I press the three middle fingers of my left hand against my lips and hold them out in her direction. Then I walk away without looking back." This shows that Katniss was sad that Rue died. Even though she died she had to move on and survive in the Hunger Games.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins.
The Hunger Games is a book where every year a girl and a boy from each district get chosen to be a tribute for the Hunger Games. The Hunger Games are a fight to the death and only one person can survie. This happens annually and has to be treated as a holiday. The main character, Katniss has to provide for her family by illegally killing animals. She is a great hunter and good with trees and the wild. Katniss goes to the Hunger Games so her sister Prim won't have to. To see what will happen next read The Hunger Games book 1 out of 3.

Overall I was excited when I finished reading this novel because I want to read the next book since I really liked this book. My favorite part was Katniss told the story of how she got Prim her goat because it was very nice of Katniss especially since she didn’t have much money. My favorite character was Rue because she was kind, loving, and skillful. Rue helped Katniss when even though she didn't know her, she could have just let the tracker jackers kill her but she didn’t. I also like her because she knows a lot and is very smart. My least favorite character was Peeta because he likes Katniss, and said she was love at first sight and never told her. They were five years old, he have more than ten years to tell her and he didn’t. Oh, and because Peeta told the world that he likes Katniss he made her life in the arena the worst. If I could change one thing, it would be the boy that was chosen in the reaping because if you read above then you can see that I don’t like him and it would have been better if some random kid that doesn’t know Katniss and might be wimpy could have been chosen. One technique the author used that I really liked/disliked was how the author would leave us on a cliffhanger at the end of a chapter because it just made you want to read the next chapter so badly and that was a good thing. One example of this in the novel is in chapter 17 when Rue gets a spear in her stomach. I would recommend this book because it has a bunch of action, excitement, and plot twists.

Katniss Everdeen is a character who is resourceful, and skilled. At the beginning of the novel, Katniss is emotionless. I know this because the novel states, "So I learned to hold my tongue and to turn my features into an indifferent mask so that no one could ever read my thoughts." During the events that unfold, Katniss starts to show emotion. This can be seen in chapter 10, when it states, "I allow my eyes to flicker up to the screen long enough to see that the blush on my cheeks is unmistakable." At the end of the novel, Katniss shows a bunch of strong emotions. This information is shown when the novel expresses, "This is the first kiss that we’re both fully aware of. Neither of us hobbled by sickness or pain or simply unconscious. Our lips neither burning with fever or icy cold. This is the first kiss where I actually feel stirring inside my chest. Warm and curious. This is the first kiss that makes me want another." Another time she showed strong emotion was when Rue died. To sum it up Katniss never showed emotion or really had emotion until she went to the Hunger Games.

Digital Love by Daft Punk (the best band ever)
I added "Digital Love" to my Hunger Games playlist because the lyrics reminded me of when Katniss tells Peeta that she was just pretending but he had real love. The lyrics stated, "The time is right to put my arms around you. You're feeling right. You wrap your arms around too. But suddenly, I feel the shining sun. Before I knew it, this dream was all gone." These lyrics make me think of the novel in chapter 27 page 372 stated, "I didn’t know there was anything to get right,” says Peeta. “So, what you’re saying is, these last few days and then I guess ... back in the arena ... that was just some strategy you two worked out.” and, “It was all for the Games,” Peeta says. “How you acted.” The part in the song where it says, "The time is right to put my arms around you. You're feeling right. You wrap your arms around too." That in the book would be when Katniss and Peeta are a thing in the arena. In the song where it says, "But suddenly, I feel the shining sun." The shining sun would be Haymitch and how he told them to keep up the act. When it says, " Before I knew it, this dream was all gone." That is when Peeta's hope of having Katniss vanishes because he knows that he won't get the girl of his dreams and she was a fake girlfriend. This is how the song connects to The Hunger Games.

The lyrics state, " If you ever find yourself stuck in the middle of the sea, I'll sail the world to find you." These lyrics make me think of the novel in chapter 2 page 22 it stated, "Prim!” The strangled cry comes out of my throat, and my muscles begin to move again. “Prim!” I don’t need to shove through the crowd. The other kids make way immediately allowing me a straight path to the stage. I reach her just as she is about to mount the steps. With one sweep of my arm, I push her behind me. “I volunteer!” I gasp. “I volunteer as tribute!” This in the book is when Prim gets picked to go to the Hunger Games. With the song, the Hunger Games is the middle of the sea and Katniss "sailed the world" to make sure her sister is safe by making herself go to the Hunger Games.
