 in the beginning the narrator is talking about his past he has a younger brother called doodle which everyone thought he would die do to hes  feautures at birth.

Doodle is mentally and physically challenged,he loves hes brother and is afraid of being abandoned and like nature

narrator -indirect characterization
towards the middle of the passage the narrator express his feelings about doodle not being able to walk"I was embarrassed at having a brother of that age who couldn't walk."
