Hi folks, I'm doing physics with a minor in astronomy. I'm aiming for a PhD in astrophysics (or physics, as long as the school has some sort of astrophysics program). Over the summer, I did an REU on the topic of Brown Dwarfs. I'm a local of San Diego, but don't ask me where is good because I don't like going outside. As for what I'd like to get out of this class is knowledge on Modern Physics.

Oh and here is a photo of me getting a headache from staring at code for too long this summer.

Hello All,

My name is Michael and I am a San Diego, CA native transferring from Grossmont College where I earned my A.S. in Physics. Recently, I spent the last few years working in Colorado in the medical device division of Johnson and Johnson, Inc. (currently ranked 35 on the Fortune 500). Previously, I have held leadership, management and technical roles within the medical device, in-vitro diagnostic device, bio-pharmaceutical and molecular diagnostic industries.

As a returning student with a unique perspective, I know for a fact that having a B.S. degree in a STEM major holds great value in the working world both professionally and monetarily. Knowing that you have the technical expertise to figure out solutions to complex issues and to lead complex cross-functional projects to success feels great. This type of skillset is highly valued and puts you in a position to charge a premium for the service you provide. I made the decision to return to college in order to advance my education, expand the technical skillset I have developed to date and to further study Physics, as it’s a subject that really fascinates me.

As far as family, education is very important and highly valued; I have an older brother who previously graduated from SDSU with a B.S. in Biology. He enjoyed the University very much and had great things to say about his educational experience.

My current goal is to complete my B.S. in Physics at SDSU and then in the future, I would like to pursue either an M.S. in Regulatory Affairs or an Executive MBA in order to assume a senior leadership role within a global organization.

I am looking forward to meeting everyone and learning more about Physics in this class as well as exploring all of the interesting experiments we will work on together.

Cheers,

Michael

Hey all, my name is Monica and I'm a physics major minoring in math. I've lived in San Diego my whole life and I love it here. I currently work at Hooters and have an internship with the San Diego Police Department. I've done competitive gymnastics my entire life but just recently quit and now I do Tae Kwon Do. I also love running to keep active, and the most I ran was a marathon back in 2015. When I'm not busy, I love going to the beach.I went to the beach almost every day this summer, but now it's over and it's time to work :( The reason why I'm studying physics in college is simply because I have a love and passion for physics. It's the one thing I'm good at and have an interest in. College is very much encouraged in my family. My dad had a masters degree in electrical engineering, my sister has a masters degree in chemistry, and my brother has a bachelors degree in electrical engineering (he will be going to grad school soon). Since I love physics, I really want to learn some new things from this class and apply them. That's the reason why I'm here-to learn. My plan in life is to become an FBI or CIA agent. After college, I would like to work for the military for a couple of years and then apply for the FBI and CIA. I might go back to grad school some day, but I'll see how my life turns out. I'm excited for this semester and to meet you all!

I've lived in the San Fernando Valley and Los Angeles practically my entire life. I chose SDSU because I wanted a change of environment, and the weather is usually nice down here. What I want to get out of my education here is to attend Grad school afterwards and pursue a Ph.D, ultimately doing research after that. I am still unsure what area I would like to specialize in. Hopefully my next two years here will help me decide the direction I want to pursue. I look forward to continuing my education and working alongside everyone else.

Hello, everyone! I am a senior physics major (B.S.) and math minor. I am originally from Toluca, Mexico, though I have lived the vast majority of my life here in the U.S., and most of that time here in San Diego. I transferred here from Mesa College (though I did attend some classes at Southwestern College) and I returned to SDSU after a 1.5 year hiatus to finish my degree. College hasn't been valued very much in my immediate family, but long ago I decided that if I was going to invest time and money in a college degree that it would be in a STEM field. I initially started out thinking I wanted to major in mechanical engineering, but after physics 196 I decided electrical engineering was the way to go. However, after having ran into lectures on physics from the Indian Institute of Technology at Madras on YouTube, I realized that what I had seen in my statics and dynamics classes wasn't very interesting afterall, so I decided to pursue physics. While here at SDSU, I became more interested in mathematical elegance, and my interests shifted from experimental to mathematical physics (e.g. Maxwell, Heaviside). I am uncertain about pursuing graduate studies in physics at the moment, but I am giving serious thought into getting my single subject teaching credential as my needs for living are fairly modest and a teaching career might give me plenty of freedom. What I am hoping to get out of this class is a fairly good working knowledge of solid state physics, as the physics department no longer offers a course in such topic. Here I am at the Metallica concert at Petco Park last month.

I have no idea if I am going for a second in Astronomy and a minor in mathematics. It does not really matter to me I guess. If time and money was not an issue I would probably do a minor in Russian as well, since I only need three more classes to obtain it. But the probability of me doing that is way lower than the other two.

I chose physics because I thought it would be fun and be the most useful to me. Majority of the time I do not know what I am doing, so everything is a probability to me. That might be the reason why I have an interest in quantum mechanics. My educational goal is to learn physics and break the common taboo of mysticism mixed with science. It would probably get me into trouble along the way and tons of negative feedback. However it does not bother me much, because if it did I would not be doing whatever i am doing. I do not know what I will be doing with it in the future, since the possibilities are almost nearly endless. It just depends on how much trouble I want to get in.

I hope this class teaches me new concepts and learn to challenge ideas or what not.

Hi, I go by Alex but many call me Thor. Life was shaky in my teenage years and I need not go into detail however eventually I found a passion for learning about our universe. It mostly started from an old college textbook on modern physics that I couldn't understand the first page of chapter 1 and yet I am stubborn and read a more layman-level physics book by Michio Kaku called Physics of the Impossible. Upon completion of Michio's book I was able to understand the college textbook and began scouring the internet and Wikipedia of various scientific topics such as black holes, star formation and composition, or whatever else seemed interesting in the realm of physics. I have a vast knowledge of physics concepts and even began to theorize things on my own that seemed parallel to international research studies I had yet to observe. Because of this I decided to pursue an academic career in physics so that I may get into the nitty-gritty of the concepts I love so much. Before I was just floating through school haphazardly but now my motivation is my two beautiful daughters and wonderful girlfriend that I wish to provided a comfortable life for without digging ditches in construction field...
