The expressionist art movement focuses on projecting an emotional response within the viewer. Rather than focusing on the reality of a scene, the artist uses colour, shape, brush strokes and other artistic tools to arouse a specific response in anyone who may be objectifying the work.

First I will carry out in depth research using the internet as well as books such as the promise of happiness by Sarah Ahmud. This will give me a broad amount of knowledge and understanding on my topic, as well as allowing me to focus in on what I really want to investigate fully.

I want to create surveys with questions about individuals goals, aspirations and desires they want to achieve and fulfil with in their lives. An example of this would be In the next three years what are your main focuses, health? Family? Travel? Hobbies? Education?.  By doing this and not only asking my generation but older as well I will gain a clear understanding of how people’s goals have adapted over time. As well as collecting this data I will look into the stats of what answers to questions much like these would be in previous years. By doing this I will be able to compare the differences in how satisfied individuals feel with their lives.

Through this project I also want to conduct interviews with an array of people to see how much they think their socialisation shaped and moulded the person they are today. I.e. their major role models they had/ have. Their parent’s expectations of them and family life (gender, punishment) How they have changed over time due to age. I want to see how this helped determine what they value and want with their lives.

I chose to explore this topic as I find studying our society and human interaction and development very interesting. I think that this topic will allow me to stretch myself in the ways I investigate and research a subject matter and how this will help me translate knowledge into an artwork.
