1. Why is this time period significant?

The Roaring Twenties was a very significant time period. It was the time period of dramatic social and political change. In this time period the nation's total wealth doubled and for the first time ever more Americans lived in cities then on a farm. It made America a consumer society. This time period also started chain stores, listened to music, did the same dances and had their own slang.

2. What important vocabulary words did you discover in your research? What do these words mean?

Some important words I discovered in my research were affluent, flapper, and stenographer. Affluent means to have a lot of money or to be wealthy. Flapper is a woman with bobbed hair and short skirts who drank and smoked. Stenographers are people whose job is to transcribe speech into shorthand.

3. Identify one human right that was expressed or denied. Explain the human right and provide an example from your topic.

I think that one human right that was expressed during the roaring 20's was Freedom Of Expression. Freedom Of Expression basically means that everyone had the right to express themselves and share their opinion. The reason I think that this human right was expressed in the Roaring Twenties is because everyone got to express themselves and do what they wanted to do. For example ladies started wearing what they wanted to and wearing different things. Also songwriters got to express their feelings through Jazz.

5. What was the culture like? How did the Roaring 20’s influence women?

During the 1920s, many Americans had extra money to spend, and they spent it on consumer goods like clothes and home appliances like electric refrigerators. They also bought radios. People went to the movies so much that Historians estimate that, by the end of the decades, three-quarters of the American population visited a movie theater every week. But the most important consumer product of the 1920s was the automobile. Women also changed a lot in the Roaring Twenties. They started to wear short skirts with bobbed hair and they drank, smoked and said what might be termed “unladylike” things. This was also the time period where women were first allowed to start voting.
