Water fountains are always being touched and used by people everyday. Each time someone comes in contact with the water fountain they leave behind bacteria. This is because bacteria can be transfered simply by touching an object such as the water fountain.

Number 4 was our number for the water fountain section on our bacteria lab plate. As you can see the number 4 area has the most colonies of bacteria growing on it compared to the others. Making the water fountain have more bacteria.

You will most likely find the most bacteria in a bathroom because many people go into them everyday. Several of the surfaces in a bathroom people touch like the handle to the door and the water faucets. I predicted that the toilet seat was going to have the most bacteria. My hypothesis was incorrect. The water fountain ended up having the most bacteria.

You can typically find bacteria in crowded or busy places such as bathrooms. When people come in contact with other surfaces the bacteria can transfer to that surface. Handles to doors are an easy object to find bacteria on as well since so many people are touching it.
