ASSALAMUALAIKUM & HELLO! I am a Professor of Food Technology at the School of Industrial Technology, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) and current Director of Centre for Academic Excellence (CDAE), USM.

I've been teaching for almost 24 years. I'm very passionate about learning and education. I believe our role as educators goes beyond transmitting knowledge — our role is to nurture our students, the future nation builders, to become lifelong learners — to teach them the skills of 'learn how to learn' and to teach them the appreciation and the love for knowledge.

As Socrates said, I cannot teach anybody anything; I can only make them think.

Hello everyone. I’m Jasmine from the School of Management. I teach both introductory and intermediate level marketing courses to the undergraduates. I research mainly about consumer behaviour in retail, branding and technology adoption. My greatest aspiration is to become a Professor in Marketing – one who is revered for her contributions in the field of consumer behavioural studies. I am Mohd Shukur from the School of Aerospace Engineering. I have taught a few subjects including Aerocomposite Engineering, Aerospace Policy & Management, Strength of Materials and some engineering labs. My research areas are mainly composite materials, natural fibre composites and nano-materials.

My aspiration for teaching and research stemmed from two major source;
Firstly,
Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “When the human being dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity, beneficial knowledge, or a righteous child who prays for him.” (Sahih Muslim)

A thought experiment, what if I was the inventor of the light bulb? Imagine how much deeds you get every time someone flick on a light switch...

Hello everyone! I'm Malini Ganapathy from the School of Languages, Literacies and Translation. I have a Certificate of Education (TESL), B.A. (Hons.) in English Language and Literature Studies, M.A. and Ph.D in Applied Linguistics from Universiti Sains Malaysia. I have 18 years of teaching experience in ESL at secondary schools prior to joining Universiti Sains Malaysia in 2014. My research interests include Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL), writing and literacy education. I teach various courses in the English for Professionals Degree Programme.

My aspiration is to become a Professor in TESL by contributing in my field of specialisation and in this vein encourage mastery, competency, transformational and life-long learning, general skill transference of skills (application), and critical thinking among students.

Rapid changes in technology have caused a great impact in the effective delivery of teaching for students of different learning styles. Hello everyone. My name is Nasha Rodziadi Khaw, from the Centre for Global Archaeological Research. I received my B. Sc. (Hons) in Chemistry and M.A in Archaeology from Universiti Sains Malaysia, and Ph.D in Archaeology from the University of Peshawar, Pakistan. My specializations are Epigraphy-Palaeography, Hindu-Buddhist Art, and the Pre-Modern Southeast Asian Archaeo-History.

My aspiration is to do more research on Southeast Asian and South Asian archaeology, especially in the field of Epigraphy-Palaeography and the Hindu-Buddhist Art in order to get clearer insights into the cultural dynamics, evolution of statecrafts, and the material cultures of the ancient societies in these regions.I also wish to create more awareness, inside and outside the academic circles, regarding the importance of preserving our heritage, and understanding our history.

Assalaamualaikum WBT and Salam Sejahtera to all! My name is Fatehah from the School of Civil Engineering. My field of specialisation is industrial wastewater treatment and studying the behaviour, fate and transport of nano pollutants.

I received my Bachelor and Masters education in Environmental Technology from USM. After a couple of years working in the private sector only did I complete my Ph.D in University of Geneva, Switzerland. I learned tremendously from my former Supervisor, Dr. Serge Stoll, especially from the way he spoke and taught me with great patience and in such a respectful manner. Not once has he ever raised his voice nor scolded me at times where I could have performed better during my studies.

From then on, I aspired to improve myself in ways to be a great educator as my Ph.D supervisor. I vowed to hold my composure, be more understanding and patient when imparting my knowledge with students. I strongly believe that having not only a positive mind but also a positive attitude is the key that could lead to greater heights of success.

Via this intensive course, I look forward to applying the effective methods of teaching and creating a more interesting learning environment. I want to know the tips and tricks of capturing and holding the students' attention in class.

Salams and greetings, I'm Khayriyyah (Kye for short) from PPSKH. I have taught techniques in biotechnology and principles of microscopy. Although my background is in Geophysics, here in USM I teach physics core course, Electricity and Magnetism, Structure of Universe (Astronomy) and Meteorology.

Greetings to all. I am Emmanuel from Advanced Medical and Dental Institute (AMDI). I was conferred a PhD in the field of Haematology by Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).
I have thus far taught intensive haematology courses for Masters of Medicine (MMed) Transfusion Medicine students. I also taught Proteomics and Medicine for MSc Medical Research students.
My main research interests are in molecular genetics, proteomics, gene regulation and molecular mechanisms in haematologic malignancies.
As an educator and researcher in USM, my aspiration is to be able to impart knowledge to the students in an effective manner. I would also like to develop their critical thinking skills and train them to become good scientist who are independent. I want to develop the thirst for knowledge in them and not just memorize facts for the sake of passing the exam. Understanding the subject matter is more important to me.
I hope to be able to develop more comprehensive, holistic and systematic syllabus/modules with specific objectives and learning outcomes through this course. I would also like to learn some creative and innovative methods to impart knowledge to my students in an effective manner through this course.

In terms of research interests, I look at organizational business execution comprising the scope of image, identity, reputation, branding, crisis and other areas of competitiveness. Another research area that am fond of is in the area of sustainability of which this can be very wide with literally no boundaries.

I’m Rizuan from School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering. My research area is on Digital Signal Processing and has been involved in teaching of subjects like Software Engineering, Digital Electronic Lab and Advanced Calculus for Engineering. I have very little experience in teaching from my previous institution (around 2 years), covering diploma and bachelor degree courses in engineering, and just 1 year in this university.

I am Nurhafiza Abdul Kader Malim from School of Management. My area of specialization is Islamic finance. My aspiration as an academic in USM is to become a good educator and researcher. I'm Nur Zatil 'Ismah Hashim from School of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. My research interest includes semiconductor device and fabrication, specifically in the development of high resistivity silicon for the use in RF-MMICs technology. It's going to be my second semester of teaching in the USM, and I will be covering Electronic Devices & Circuits for Year 1 undergraduates. Inspired by my father, teaching has always been a passion, and I've started developing interests in semiconductor physics and devices ever since I was in my undergraduate years. Penang has always been a great home, hence USM is the best place to be. For this course, I'm deeply excited to being able to meet new people, learning new teaching and learning skills, as well as sharing thoughts and experiences with other fellow educators.

Hi. I'm Si Ling from School of Chemical Sciences. I am teaching physical chemistry and analytical chemistry courses. My research area focuses on wastewater treatment. Students have different learning styles, it's very challenging to convey the knowledge if they have no interest in the subject. Teaching is not only delivering the facts. It's important to spark their interest, helping them to discover and expand their potential and values.
