Introduction

To my understanding, I see the concept of endless inventory as a thing that suggests there will always be another song. Ratliff talks about how if you liked one song, you can take a certain interest in the musician that made the song, then you like all the music that artist makes and from there, you can start to like music similar to this artist or even start to listen to artists that musician listens to. With this theory, your music inventory should be endless. I think that there will always be another song you will enjoy as long as you have somewhere to start, like a song or artist. For me, it started off with Aminé. I liked his first song that made him viral, I took interest into his other songs and from there I discovered a lot of other artists that I enjoy, including Russ. I will show you some examples of them in this Padlet.

"It's the opposite of the hunger you may feel when the musician knows he's got a powerful thing and only gives you a little, leaving you hungry. It's the principle of the musician giving you a seemingly endless supply while also imparting to you the understanding that there is always more."

-Ben Ratliff

Mariah Carey - Vision of Love

Ratliff says that we listen for clues to how musicians think about their work in the large sense. He says that Mariah Carey's "Vision of Love" (1988) was a good example of this because she was making a case for herself as a singer and songwriter. She was a virtuoso and she did very extraordinary things with her voice that others could not do.

Lil Wayne - Mirror ft. Bruno Mars

Ratliff talks about long discographies and gives out several examples of artists and one of them was Lil Wayne. He talks about how these type of artists just create, document, and move on. They let the audience establish its relationship to their work and that takes care of itself. I think this song and music video for it is a really good example of that.

Russ has always been one of my favorite artists after I heard his one song "Losin' Control" which I have already included in my past padlets. When I heard that song I did not know him as an artist yet, I then took interest and started listening to all his other songs such as this one, Ride Slow, and I enjoy them very much.

This was the song that made Aminé go viral. Most people see him as a one hit wonder with this song, but he just recently released his new album and it brought a whole new variety of musical genres. His music as an artist made my variety of music grow because he plays around with multiple styles of music and not just one.
