I think Ratliff's book was an overall, very well written book. It addresses some musical elements that people may not hear right off the bat. Ratliff digs deeper into what music really is and what makes music "music". My favorite aspects of the book were that it was written in a casual way, and used somewhat recent songs in some examples. I couldn't find anything that was really problematic. The only thing I would say that COULD be problematic was the musical words he used in the book. Maybe people not really familiar with music couldn't really relate. This book has changed how I listen to music by making me focus on elements I may not have known were even there before reading. For example, I have heard the song "Dream" by Al Green before, but Ratliff made notice the background elements of the synth, and soft vocals a little more than before.
