TIM Calibration during class walks

Co-Designing and Co-Teaching

A C8 school with a part time coach no longer felt like a "coach" because she had 5 sections to teach and was exhausted. I modeled for her how to use her time within a PLC to hear what the teachers were already planning and suggest some turn-key strategies. I modeled this process for her with Long MS's 8th grade ELA PLC and then modeled the co-designed lesson for two classes.

Student Tech Team Meeting

Asking for time with the Student Tech Team has helped to learn their processes, systems, and successes. Students have been given this time to share their stories of impact while on the team.

Notability (paid app) on iPad for class walks

I upload the TIM-O to my iPad's Notability app to be able to take notes, add pics from the classes (if allowed), and circle the TIM level. This allows me to capture things in real-time and also refer back to each class when I complete my post-visit follow up. This sometimes allows me to capture ideas to support stories of impact, too.

Shadowing a Coaching Conversation

We scheduled an opportunity to shadow the coach and give feedback on a coaching conversation with a teacher (with approval of the teacher). After this coaching observation, the coach and I had a productive conversation about her coaching strategies and overall next steps for the teacher.

Co-Design

Leverage your ongoing connections with your coach to plan your SSVs AND monthly connects with your principals to get their feedback prior to the visit. If you connect it with their TAP and ongoing conversations it can dramatically increase buy in and engagement.

Observation Followup

Plan time in between classroom observations (with admin team and coach) to discuss what was observed and collaboratively think about TIM level and possible next steps.

These collaborative meetings are a great time to have coach/principal share updates AND current roadblocks to progress.

Freeform

I love using Freeform to take notes during observations so I can include any media (pictures, video and notes). You can then easily take screenshots to include when including info in your followup.

I also encourage my coaches (in iPad districts) to do the same for their TIM observations.

Plan Time

I try to plan time after my visits to update my notes, add include images/screenshots and then create a susinct email that includes the notes and high level followups that were collaboratively identified.
