I think students violate guideline #6 "Thou Shalt Not Copy Or Use Proprietary Software For Which You have Not Paid". Specifically, when it comes to owning textbooks.

Q2. Why do you think these violations occur?

I think students violate rule #6 because textbooks are way too expensive! Not that I am condoning pricary, but many professors even share resources to website we may be able to use because no one should be locked out from learning due to cost. Otherwise, I think some people do not know about these rules or just do what the majority does and don't realize they are breaking guidelines/laws.

Q3. What do you think could be done to reduce or eliminate such unethical behavior?

In the case of textbooks, offering reduce pricing or even may be digital renting plans might curb the issue. Otherwise, may be taking direct action (maybe even legal action) against the sites that host these pirated textbooks.
