Texas to be apart of the United States .

Mainly because they did not want Texas to become a slave state.

*The U.S soldiers were led by General Zachary Taylor they killed about

a dozen people.

*The United States ended up winning the war and signed the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo in 1848

* American forces occupied New Mexico and California and then invaded parts of Northeastern Mexico and Northwest Mexico. The Pacific Squadron made a blockade and then took control of many garrisons on the Pacific coast.

- He was born near Lexington, Virginia.

- He fought in the Creek war from 1813 to 1814

- His first real taste of politics came in 1823 when he was elected for congress , when he served two terms.

- in 1827 he became the governor of Tennessee

- His marriage fell part with his first wife Eliza Allen in 1829 due to his alcoholism and filed for divorce in 1833

- in 1836 on April 21st , Houston's army (800) at 4pm attack Santa Anna's (1400)

- October 22, 1836 Houston was sworn in as president of the republic of Texas

- He was Texas state senator from 1849 to 1859

- March 16, 1861 he was deposed as governor because of his refusal to take the Confederate States of America oath

- December of 1862 the Houston family moves back to Huntsville and rents the Steam Boat house

- Sam died of Pneumonia (a lung infection where your lungs are filled with fluid ! ) on July 26, 1863 at 70 years old in Huntsville in the Steam Boat house
