Knowing someone is there and is even maybe risking things for you, can make you want to keep trying and not to give up on what ever your doing. In these scenes Miep and Mr. Kraler are risking their lives for Anne Frank and the other 7 people living in the Annex, Mrs. Frank said, "Mr. Kraler and Miep . . . They’re our life line. Without them we couldn’t live." (scene 3) I feel, that this is not only because they are supplying everything the people in the Annex need to survive, but just the fact that there is someone risking their own life to save yours can really motivate you to never give up, and to try your best to survive.

This shows that both Anne and her family view the helpers as "protectors".
