It has been a year of many changes and progress in Housing Services. Our wonderful Director, Stephen Fleischer moved over to the Student Union to become the new Executive Director. The Leadership team in our department has done a great job moving forward with vision and excellent service to our students. There were also some additions to the team including an additional Resident Director and a new Communications and Technical Support Coordinator.

Betty Kennedy, the Associate Director for Business Operations and Facilities had a busy year making changes to many of our administrative processes including moving towards a mobile check in process that we will implement this fall. The Housing Office facility was in need of renovations for many years. Betty worked diligently to provide all staff members with new desks and better storage solutions. Betty and her team were able to accomplish numerous changes in processes and protocols that allow us to provide more seamless and supportive service to our students. Thanks to all of their hard work, we remained at 97% occupancy and already have an extensive waiting list for next year. We shifted priority for first time freshman and sophomores to support the greatest student needs for housing. Betty and her team made concerted communication efforts to provide juniors and seniors adequate notice to make alternate plans. Supported this effort with an Apartment Resource Fair, bringing in area rental agencies and creating a comprehensive local listing of available complexes.

Mark Facio, the Assistant Director for Facilities was busy with projects, team management and development and redeveloping our key system, which included changing and updating all of the lock systems in our entire portfolio. They also completed a WiFi upgrade, addressed preventative maintenance issues, and have nearly completed the security camera upgrade that includes updated and additional security cameras. His entire team worked tirelessly to provide the best facilities for our students.

The Residence Life team worked through some challenges as the Associate Director, Rebecca Palmer transitioned into the Director role and one of the Resident Directors left her position to move on to other adventures. However, as Donyet King stepped in to take on the Associate Director role, the entire team continued to provide amazing programs and educational support for their residents. The Resident Director team developed a new programming model that allowed their staff to be more effective and intentional in developing community and supporting student development. Donyet has taken on the charge of creating the new black scholars program, the Halisi Living-Learning Community. We are excited about this new program and how it will support Black students on campus.

Also, look for updates as we will soon announce our new Associate Director for Residence Life!
