We have introduced Young Carer Statements to better support young carers in our schools. These statements recognise the unique challenges faced by young carers and outline the specific support available to them.

This Highland Council Young Carer's statement is designed to be accessible to all Highland Pupils using their Highland Google Account on any device.

To access 3 Young Carer Support modules, please log in using your GLOW credentials, then select Professional Learning – Professional Learning Activities – search Young Carers using the links in this Padlet. The training has been developed in collaboration with Education Scotland and Carers Trust Scotland, the second module in particular deals with young carers statements. As long as you work with young carers then you can register to complete the Modules.

Read&Write support ALL pupils with their learning and is available to every pupil and family in Highland Schools.

Padlet has now introduced Sandbox as a direct replacement for Jamboard AND you can import all your Jamboards before they become PDFS....

You can login with your Highland Google credentials and get 3 free boards. We are currently investigating whether there is a solution with Padlet for accounts that would have more than 3 boards. Watch this space!

Changes to the EAL Service

The EAL service has undergone a restructuring and there are some changes to previous practice. We hope these changes will make the service more accessible to all schools in Highland. The links to the EAL Website, New Arrivals Flow Chart, interpreting service information and Referral Form can be found on the EAL page on the School’s Hub under ASfL - Specialist Services.

Changes to EAL Provision:

EAL Profiles - There is a new Primary/ Secondary EAL Profile. Each school has a master copy of the profile (with a link to guidance) in their EAL Library on the school’s SharePoint. EAL profiles should be set up, then updated by schools, and stored in this SharePoint EAL library.

EAL New Arrivals Flow Chart – information and links on how to support a new EAL Pupil from enrolment to their first few weeks.

EAL Highland Website – this NEW website is now live and is an excellent resource for supporting EAL pupils in your school

EAL Service Referral Form – a referral system is now in place

Interpreting Service provided by Global is funded, centrally, by Highland Council
