It is important for us medical laboratory scientists to provide an accurate and reliable test result mainly because it is where the physician decides what diagnosis is needed. In fact, according to what I have learned from sir Justine Bill Vicente, 70% of decisions regarding the to the diagnoses deends on the test results coming out from the laboratory. So providing a reliable and accurate test result is crucial for the treatment of the patient.

As a future medical technologist, we will perform various laboratory tests or laboratory procedures that would be a great help for the physicians in carrying out the diagnosis, treatment, and management of patients. Sabi nga ng CDC, 70% of the medical decisions make by the physicians depends or based on the laboratory results performed by the laboratory professionals. Based from that fact, we can see how important our role as medtects is. We need to always make sure that the test or procedures we perform is precise and accurate from checking the request forms, specimen collection, doing the procedures, until the release of laboratory results, and reporting it to the physician. We can do these by undergoing proper training especially in terms of quality assurance, proper quality management and control.

As I understand it, in order to be useful in a clinical or public health situation, laboratory results must be as accurate as feasible, all parts of laboratory operations must be dependable, and reporting must be timely. There is always a degree of inaccuracy when taking measurements. In addition, the results of clinical laboratory tests are a critical component of diagnosis, monitoring, and screening. Laboratory results account for 80% of diagnosis choices, and laboratory analyses are increasingly requested. As a result, a large amount of data is presented, and physician familiarity with the tests and interpretation of the results is essential for patient care and safety. Lastly, Because clinical decision-making is tailored to a correct understanding of the patient's health problem when a diagnosis is accurate and made in a timely manner, a patient has the best chance for a positive health outcome.

Lab testing is one of the first lines of defense for a patient's overall health. Laboratory results account for 60 to 70 percent of all choices on a patient's diagnosis, treatment, hospital admission, and discharge, and these tests determine so much of a patient's experience in the health care business.
Most laboratory tests are performed by medical laboratory scientists, or medical technologists. These professionals interpret test results such as blood and urine testing and communicate them to doctors. Chemical, biochemical, hematological, immunologic, microscopic, and bacteriological tests all require good analytical and independent judgment. All of these duties make them key elements in the discretion and process of accurate lab results.

Medical laboratory testing is frequently valued based on its cost, yet the clinical advantages of these tests are just as essential. Laboratory testing is widely recognized as playing a role in clinical decision-making and, as a result, in deciding clinical outcome. As a result, the importance of laboratory testing should be examined in terms of its impact on positive behaviors and outcomes. This encompasses both the asking phase of selecting tests that will influence clinical decision-making as well as the reporting phase of informing clinical judgments and actions. If clinical decision support tools and software are aimed at facilitating clinical decisions where there is either evidence or accepted consensus, they can improve the usefulness of medical laboratory tests. Quality, clinical efficacy and effectiveness, patient-centeredness, patient satisfaction, timeliness, clinical efficiency, cost effectiveness, productivity affordability, and cost are all concepts used to describe value. Disease prevention, early detection, establishing an accurate diagnosis, selecting the right treatment, avoiding delays in treatment, facilitating recovery, reducing disability, preventing relapse or retarding disease progression, and reducing the need for long-term care should all be considered when determining laboratory value. These health goals are also the primary goals of laboratory testing since laboratory testing can help guide each of these clinical decision points.

It is the responsibility of the medical technologist to provide accurate and precise data. Because they may hold life and death in their hands, the medical technologist must know when results are incorrect and need to be rechecked.

At this point, laboratories must perform routine quality control tests, usually every day, and in many cases, several times a day. Quality control tests usually include normal and abnormal samples to ensure that the equipment, the technologist, and the reagents used in the test are performing to established standards. In addition, laboratories must participate in proficiency testing programs in addition to quality control testing. The laboratory must get the right result in order to be allowed to continue to test patient samples.
Moreover, laboratories must demonstrate that they have written policies and procedures in place to specifically document how the sample is collected, transported, evaluated, and reported in an appropriate manner.

These requirements ensure that the tests performed by clinical laboratories for patient care will generate results that are reproducible and can be trusted.

With that, the main objective then of the clinical laboratory is to provide highly reliable and accurate laboratory data or results to help with the said diagnosis and treatment. Accordingly, medical laboratory technologists are responsible in the management of this laboratory in which they are the ones who perform a wide range of tests such as measuring many different proteins and electrolytes, as well as drug levels which will be used to monitor patient therapy, among others.
