In the story Odysseus puts us in his shoes by telling us to "Think of a man whose dear son and only son, born to him in exile, reared with labor,has  lived ten years abroad and now return" (Homer 691). This shows us that it was difficult for Odysseus to come back because he didn't know how his son would react. Odysseus's struggles were also pointed out by his own son's reaction to his coming. We see this when Telemucus yells out "Meddling spirits conceived this trick to twist the knife in me" (Homer 693). This tells us that Telemucus didn't believe Odysseus that he was back which was hard for Odysseus because it made him feel like he didn't want him back. In the beginning it says "fawned on him" (Odyssey Part Two) , the use of the word fawned means that the troop of watchdogs attacked Odysseus as he was walking in the house. The word, shows what happened but in a stronger form so the reader pictures it happening in a more "real" way. Also, when Odysseus wants to look at his son, he says "let me feast my eyes" (Odyssey Part Two), meaning he wants to take a good look at his son who he hadn't seen in 20 years. A: In this scene, Odysseus is in a disguise of a beggar that Athena bestowed him, so that no one knows who he truly is. He doesn't want people to know who he is because he doesn't want to upset Penelope or let her know he is alive. The ancient Greeks' respond to him respectfully treating him as a if he were a king. They did this by giving up their chairs for him and feeding him the finest meat they have and the honey-hearted wine. As well as this they were also most likely very confused on why they are treating this old man so respectfully with the fact that they are just drunk suitors waiting for the opportunity to be the new king.
Q: which part of this recognition scene between father and son do you find most moving or dramatic? Sum up the problems that now face father and son in the palace at Ithaca? The most dramatic part of the father and son meeting was most defiantly the part when Telemachus was exclaiming how he felt as if the meddling spirits made this trick to twist a knife in him. This was very dramatic because he is only just meeting his father and it is not like he is being killed. This matters today because it shows that's no matter how far and how long family separate, they should always end up back with eachother. This theme is relevant to modern day heroes. For example; when a police officer is at work saving people, he always comes home to his family. It's important to stay loyal to family because it's what makes humans love. Without family us humans would b selfish and chaotic.

When Telemachus, Odysseus’s son, asks a serevent “I have come because I wanted to see you first, to hear from you if Mother stayed at home - or is she married off to someone, and Odysseus’s bed left empty for some gloomy spider’s web?” (Homer 692). This quote demonstrates how people are trying to marry Odysseus’s wife to become king of Ithaca. As if it was not bad enough, more calamity awaits Odysseus. When Odysseus reveals himself to Telemachus, Telemachus says “you cannot be my father Odysseus!” (Homer 693). This shows that even Odysseus’s own son does not believe that Odysseus is back from his long journey.
