Adherence: Teachers correctly follow the procedures of implementation how researchers designed them.

Exposure/Duration: Teachers adhere to the recommendations for length of sessions, durations of EBPs, and frequency of delivery given by the researchers.

Quality of Delivery: Teachers effectively implement the EBP by showing enthusiasm, being open to student feedback, etc.

An EBP could be less effective if it is not implemented correctly, meaning that students may not be able to achieve the desired outcome. Teachers could also determine that a practice or program is ineffective, even though they implemented it incorrectly.

Ways Fidelity Can Be Compromised

Drift: Teachers gradually stray away from the guidelines set by the researchers. Teachers can minimize the likelihood of drifting by frequently monitoring their implementation procedures.

Adaptation: Teachers alter the EBP for some or all students. If teachers do adapt an EBP, they should do the following: make changes after the EBP is initially implemented with fidelity, only change one component at a time, and only change components that are not core components.
