Melody goes to a summer camp, nervous but excited for the adventures to come. She learns to do things she would have never gotten to do, and does new things, all of which are very impressive for a girl in a wheelchair. Melody wants to be indipendant. She learns to step out of her comfort zone in order to experience things she would have never gotten to do otherwise. She faces struggles, makes new friends, and learns to be who she is. Melody learns to face her fears and to try new things.

Through out the entire novel, Melody learns to face her fears, try new things, and follow her dreams. She also learns that when you do these things, you find new things you like, and you get to experience things you would have never got to experience before. Melody also learns to speak up and be brave for what she belives is right.

The horse represents power, strength, wisdom, and calmness. Melody can feel the horses gracefulness and power. When she gets lost, all alone, strapped on the horse's back, she trusts the horse and stays calm under pressure, after understanding the gentle creature is wise and knows exactly what to do.

Through this book, I learned from Melody's mistakes and victories to always face my fears, follow my dreams, and always try new things. When I am scared to do the right thing, or try a new thing, I can remember the bible verse Joshua 1:9 which says, "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened and do not be dismayed. For the Lord your God is with you, wherever you go." Because of Melody's camp experience through this story, one can see that when people overcome their fears, the experience pure joy and delight in knowing what they just accomplished.

Through out the entire story, Melody struggles with her own fear. She is afriad to try new things. Melody does not want to face her fears. She does not like to step out of her comfort zone, but through her camp experience, she learns to do hard things, and she gets more fermilier with stepping out of her comfort zone.

The fire, being similar to the fire fly, represents freedom. When Melody sits with others around the fire, she forms strong, memorable bonds with the people she meets and learns to grow closer to. The fire allows Melody not to worry about what others think about her, and she realizes she can just act like herself.

Throughout the entire novel, people see tension between melody and her camp counselors. They want what is best for her, so they try not to let her out of their sight. Melody, however, wants to be independent. She understands she is no ordinary child, but a disabled girl who must rely on others for everything. This tension grows throughout the entire story, and eventually, Melody expresses her feelings toward this.
