A school house system is, from what the articles discuss, is a sort of community of students. Their purpose is to make the learning experience at the school more inclusive. A house is meant to stick together, and support each other. The house system in schools also helps kids get through tough times. The text states, "We've got her. The house has got her"(Cornwall 1). This shows how when a house system is put in place, students feel they have the need to take care of each other. Therefore, I think that schools with house systems would have tighter 'student communities.' Would it be cool if our school tried out using a house system for a month or 2?

When you know people better, the more you care about them. So, if schools focus on student interaction and collaboration, the students will be able to work together, and learn about each other. That would be my way for schools to grow community among their students. My question would be; do you think that our grades would be better if we worked in groups, or fall behind because you weren't learning certain parts?

Right now, I think everyone is a little desperate for human interaction at the moment, so a good way to keep the school community going right now is to let students work together. Using breakout rooms and small group projects are nice, because you can talk to other students, and makes you feel like you aren't doing everything on your own(even if you are). Would it be harder to work on group projects outside of class?

To do this, everyone should be able to have a voice about what is going on in the classroom and in the school. This is teachers and students. When you have a community you are able to talk about what is affecting you and others.
The article also talks about students setting goals and working together to complete these goals to earn rewards for their hard work. When teachers and classmates celebrate hard work everyone is more likely to work harder.
How can students celebrate each other's hard work?

There are many ways for schools to grow in a sense of community. It could simply be talking to parents in news letters and keeping them updated more on what they child is learning so they feel included. Communication is a big part of being a community. A few other things could be recognizing differences. Differences make people unique and being apart of a community could mean letting people express who they are. Schools could grow in this area. Some suppress creativity, others encourage it. Showing individuality is important. One more things schools could do is really focus on working together and team building. Having help isn't a bad thing and sometimes work is easier with the helps of others. Schools could do a better job of recognizing when students should be working together rather than apart. This allows them express opinions and open up towards new ideas that develops relationships with their peers. All these things are a big part of being a community. You are all together in this school and need to recognize that, as well as schools needing to recognize it too.
-Isabella Swol
My source:
https://www.ptotoday.com/pto-today-articles/article/5949-5-ways-to-build-school-community

There are many things schools can do to increase community in virtual learning. For example self care check ins. This would be to see how every one is doing. These days it can get lonely and depressing to be away from other people. Schools can improve on checking in on students. More specifically teachers can do this. Learning is about experience and being shut indoors all day alone can really have a negative impact on students. Another things schools can do is really let students talk more to one another. They could listen and learn from one another making these days less lonely and more interesting. My last point is that schools should really improve upon letting students ask questions. They should be embraced. Asking questions is a good way to build up social activity and encourage participation. This can really connect student to one another and help the schools help the students focus and understand one another more.
-Isabella Swol
My source:
https://www.edutopia.org/article/how-forge-strong-community-online-classroom

A school house system is when a school decided to group children together and give them "houses" like in Harry Potter. The different colors symbolize the different houses. The purpose of doing this is create a community within the houses. You meet new people and forge bonds. Also you can meet teachers you normally wouldn't. You can earn points and doing so can build up relationship skills with your fellow house members. To me this sounds very intriguing and honestly I wouldn't mind trying this our myself. It looks fun to me.

It’s harder to reach out to everyone because you can’t really speak to them in person. I guess the one way you can connect with each other is talking through technology, other then the other plans you might have outside of school. Having students talk more would probably help. Not like talking as you picking them and they are forced to give an answer with everyone else listening, but something more natural like a big group talking. Perhaps people would then feel more comfortable with speaking up. How do you think our community is holding up virtually?

A school house system is a system where you divide the students into sections within the school. Really, it’s like a school community but cut into sections. It’s possibly easier to feel like you belong there because of the smaller amount of people, and how you need to cooperate with each other. The school house system’s goal is to strengthen the community by having the students and staff feel more connected to each other. What do you think are the negatives of having a school house system?
