STEM is in almost everything we do as a country, as a state and as individuals. In order to keep up with the high demand of jobs we need to prepare our students to 1. Become more knowledgeable in the fields of STEM
2. Enjoy STEM to better our growth as individuals through research
3. Keep up with the race to power as a nation

"Potential to change the world"
Makers, rather than consumers are independent inventors. Makers fuel the economy. When you give people the opportunity to create and to learn to love to create it opens up a whole new realm of endless possibilities.

What's the problem?

There are not enough groups represented in the "maker world". Women are under-represented, African Americans, Hispanics and others seem to be missing from this movement. Why is that a problem? I think it is a problem because it speaks to our schooling system, the opportunities being presented to those groups or the lack of opportunities being presented. Also it speaks to the teachers. Are we doing enough to spark interest in every student rather then the obvious "techie". If we believe in all of our students we might be the missing link they need to get their foot in the door to the a path that could lead them to SUCCESS!
