Prepared and Afraid by Anna Bower

Congratulations! After careful consideration and sifting through thousands of applicants from all over the world, you have been selected as a candidate for the show "Prepared and Afraid"! Only 25 potential candidates remain at this point in the selection process. You have only one task left before we make our final selection. It is crucial for your survival and safety, that you prove you can indeed plan for such a physically and emotionally daunting task. The more accurate your answers and research, the more likely it is that you will survive and avoid disqualification during your 14 day survival period. After submitting this final part of your application process, we will have a panel of judges decide if you are our final selection. Good luck! And may mother nature, be forever in your favor. Research guidelines: (1) Use a good variety of websites (2) Do not use another student's project as a resource (3) Google is not a source, it is a search engine! (4) Do not plagiarize (5) Keep track of your sources in a google doc so you can copy and paste them into your padlet later (6) Use wikepedia sparingly and as a last resort

A temperate rain forest is a biome that has between 60-200 inches of rain each year. It's different from a regular rain forest because it has seasons, with summer high of 60-80 degrees. In a standard rain forest there is always vegetation, but in a temperate rain forest, like Tongass in the winter the plants die. See below for a map of the temperate rainforest biome locations. Temperate Rain Forest is one of the rarest biomes.

Brown bears and black bears are prominent in Tongass. If we come across a bear, which is likely, and act scared, the bear will try to attack us. So to stay safe if you run into a black or brown bear be calm and don't make eye contact or noise. Also, Grizzly bears are omnivores. There are Kodiak bears in Alaska, they are the largest bears in the world. They can grow to over 1000 pounds. Overall in Alaska there are 30,000 bears, which is 95% of the bear population in the United States..
