false consciousness

When people live in a mistaken idea reality or of a persons social class.

Karl Marx’s teachings made people realize the worth of their work; they formed unions and sabotaged industries for better pay

I think class consciousness was a revolutionary concept but is often pushed beyond the bounds of reasonable application and in return leads to many people over charging for their work.

The process of adapting to a new culture

One way I’ve experienced culture shock is when I visited my family in orange county and I realize that they didn’t eat anything unhealthy and they lived on strict diet because they’re trained fighters so where I wanted to eat a bunch of junk they were eating very healthy, very lean and I found it really hard to adapt to that. Eventually, I did get used to it but by that time I was already leaving so it didn’t make a difference.

Status set

Status refers to a social position that a person holds. In correlation, a status set is a combination of all social positions a person holds, whether they are ascribed or achieved. These can be either positive or negative. Examples may be; sister, brother, mom, coworker, dean, teacher, prime minister, etc.

I believe that status sets are consistent by name but different by role. By this, I mean that two individuals might have the same status set, but depending on the people around them, their values and mores, each set, though identical, will provide an entirely different experience for each person.
