The question we chose was, do you think they see it as winning. We do not think they see it as winning because in the end someone has to die. The person who gets stoned definitely doesn't but everyone else doesn't mind it. The story is popular and still taught in schools because it shows that people don't always get their way. It also shows that you don't always get what you want. It also has many suspense elements in it so people who are reading about suspense (like us) read it.

Q1- We the Hunger Games is a modern Lottery because in both there is a random draw to decide who will face death, and its the government official that decides that this is okay to do.
Q2- We believe that the story is popular because its lesson is don't fall under the influence of others and stand up for yourself of bad thing can and will happen. They teach it in school because they believe this is a good lesson.

1. is the Hunger Games a modern day "Lottery?"
Kind of. they are similar in many ways but they are very different also. in the lottery, only one person gets picked, and in the Hunger Games 24 people get picked. You have a low chance of "winning" or getting in but you will probably die. They might do it for the same reason or they do it for very different reasons. In the Hunger Games they do it to teach a lesson that the Capitol is in power, and they don't really say why in the Lottery. Overall, They are similar in many ways and different in many ways too.

Everybody thinks the lottery is winning. But not the person who is actually getting stoned. They see it as winning because in the story they said that lottery in "June corn be well soon". So they think if they have the lottery they will have good crops.
Our group thinks that this story has a good amount of suspense elements that are being taught in school. It also might be popular because it is a creepy story. Also a good short story to read in school.

1. Question 2: I think they do think it is winning. They consider it where 1 person loses. The person who "wins" the lottery and dies is the person who loses. Everyone else "wins" because they are still alive and don't have to die.
2. Question 1: This story is popular because you have to inference. People like when they aren't told exectaly what they are reading. You have to guess what is happening a lot in the story.
Question 2: For the same reason as before. To teach inference to kids. They have read the story and learn suspense.

We choose the question " Is The Hunger Games a modern day 'Lottery' story". We don't think it is the same at all. The Lottery has to obvious reason for having it every year. The Hunger Games is a sport and payment for a rebelion and not a ritual. Also no one think that the Hunger Games are a good thing unlike the Lottery where the people think it is good think.

1.How would you describe the tone of the villagers before and after the lottery?
The tone of the villagers before the lottery was the villagers were annoyed, and wanted to get the lottery over with. When they were drawing the lottery, the people were feeling anxious about who was going to get picked. After the lottery the people felt relieved that they didn't get stoned.
2. Why is this story so popular? Why is it still taught in schools?

This story has a good theme because it means that you shouldn't always follow what other people are doing. It is still taught in schools because they want to teach kids that sometimes you have to stand up for yourself and you don't have to always do what other people are doing.
