Wars happen when two nations are in a conflict that could have been solved with peace. In my collage I want to represent the horrific and powerfully dangerous of war in order to highlight the carotid artery would be broken if one damages it through drowning and smoking.

I have drawn the carotid artery and printed it with just the artery with beauty that surrounds it, such as water swirls and flowers and placed in the middle of my collage to engage with the viewer and let it focus on it as the central idea surrounds it. Then I have cut out objects, such as the ships in order to demonstrate the two nations with the lighter surrounding it and the darkness that surrounds it, using blue and yellow as contrasting colours to make them visible. I have also used the clock that is hidden between the letter ‘T’ because people don’t realize how one’s life can be affected by smoking, and it’s hidden because of this reason. The connective of the anatomy and the environmental affect is through people, that’s why I have placed a man right in the center of the collage. I have used the nerves that was originally from the brain, put in black and white and used it as branches of darkness. This darkness would then start to expand and encircle what is beautiful, such as the piece of island on top of the collage, creating juxtaposition between what once was beautiful and the darkness it could become. One more thing that is significant for the surreal side is that I have placed the entire story inside and above the bath tub. This because the tub is a tangible object that can hold things inside at a LIMITED amount, which represents the symbol of time and relaxation. It includes the time of the past and as well as the future if the problem continues.

After the collage, I have decided on the name for it. Which would be:

The “War’s” Consequences.

I have chosen this name because war damaging the society is like smoking damaging the carotid artery. Which as a result, reflects the social norms and their effects and consequences.

For my first experiment, I have selected the colours red, blue, white, black and a little amount of yellow.I started with the darkish red and then ended with blue. Initially I wanted the blue to be the overal colour of my painting, but to my surprsie, the red underneath overthrew the blue, creating a beautiful shading. After the layers of colours, I put the canvas on top and flipped the cup. The technique that I have used for agitating is letting the red to go from the bottom and then to the top, by agitaing the canvas clockwise.

This part of my 'Boundaries' experiment is very important when contributed to both the intentin/meaning of this painting and to the name itself. When associating with boundaries, normally people will associate with people. So here it turned out with shades done with the blue that was covered by the red, and because I have also used the black, it mixed in with the red creating this anatomy affect. And since it doesn't have a head or the rest of the body, it can represent all people. This then would link to the idea that everyone should hold boundaries around them, and be careful in who one trusts and cares. The little black cells that appears here also contributes to the fact that no one's skin is smooth and clear, creating a realistic sense to the human contribution to the painting.

By seeing the first experiment, I have understood that if I want a specific colour to be shown through the other colours, I would need to put it last, which in this case, it is blue. Something else that I wanted to try for this second experiment is the layering of the lighter colours, which I have used white, then pink then blue, then white again, black and then white. This thin layering technique turned out better than I have expected becsaue it not only layered these colours together, it also mixed some colours together to create other colours, such as the light purple. One more thing that I have done is what I call the 'half-and-half" technique, where I poured black and red together at the same time, which turned out to form two 'lands'.I also let it drip to the side, to represent the surrealism effect.

From here we can see that there are two almost lunged shape are linked together, but also separated by a thin line, which can be seen in the full painting. The ‘lung’ that is outside of the line symbolizes the boundary outside, and the one that is inside symbolizes the crossing passed the boundary line, which significant because it means that a person’s (which could be anyone in the world) boundaries has been crossed. That is why the entire painting is darker in tone, representing that crossing of boundary, even if it’s someone nice (shown by the lightness of colours) they still crossed the boundaries of someone.

But what I can improve is the layering of the colours, and the order plus the amount of each painting. I have noticed the last colours that I have put into the cup is at the bottom and the first colour that I have poured is on top, which I have figured before the experiment, but what I didn’t know is that the first colour I have poured would still overthrow the last, giving that unexpected twist. So I have decided for the second experimentation, I would be more logic in each layering of the colours. Overall, the final piece of ‘Boundaries’ still conveys a lot of meaning in the details and the spacing with the contrast of all the colours.

And I have linked to the symbolism of time which gives that essence of surrealism itself. Next time I would want to use different layerings and see how they turn out, and also research on agitating the canvas for the paint to be in a certain way. Overall, I loved the way it turned out.

Now I begin to start the intricate details of the painting, which is the ship and the butterflies. Dali uses butterflies in his paintings because Butterflies in the interpretation of dreams show for connection with the world that surrounds the dreamer as it is a symbol of freedom and enthusiasm. In his painting we can see that the butterflies are multy collurs, which then implies that Dali is in a state of mind where he is joyful and spiritual.

For the wave-like texture I mixed the ight colour and made curvy lines layer by layer, colour by colour, I left some white as wll so that it gives a more 3D-like effect from the relection of the sun.

Here is the final imitation of Dali's piece. It was a wonderful experience to be able to experiment with water colour. There were two ways in doing this piece. One, is the clouds that was harder to control to form a dream like effect. And two, the detailed, easier to control water colour when doing the butterflies. This is a big part of the juxtaposition as it comes trust between two opposite ways of water colouring in the same painting. This also implicitly implies that when one dreams, they tend to remember specific parts which I believe would be the butterflies in this case and the clouds symbolizes the dream itself and time, as clouds in real life don't ever stay in one place. Overall it was a wonderful experience to be able to formally use water colour for the first time.

- The Clouds -
The next step of this painting would be the clouds. This is the first time I have ever tried anything like this so it was quite of a challenge. The challenging part is really get that blend of the blues and whites together, but also it has to turn out as if it has lines and clear structure of each part of the cloud. So what I have done first is to brush the entire cloud with some water that is mixed with the lightest blue in the piece. Then, I started making lines with darker blues which shapes the cloud. During this particular process, the lines were just very visible which made the entire cloud look solid and not dream like at all. So then what I did was on top of the darker blues I mixed in white and continuoisly adding water, which helped with the smoothing of the clouds. These two processes of adding lines and blending the colours I alternated the two processes until I go the closest surrealistic Dali cloud background. The clouds are my favorite part of the entire piece because it really does enlighten the entire painting.

The butterfly represents many things like spiritual rebirth, transformation(change) and life in general. As I am still processing the vison and ideas in my head, I am thinking of how much spirit a butterfly has, which then led me thinking, what if I literally transformed the butterfly into a person, but still keeping the winged features, because then it would be the bridge between humans and nature as it is both part of the human world and nature, I call her 'she', for now. This link of the two worlds is formed as I am a mixed girl myself, and that way I can create 'she' to contain emotion through her movement, expression and the colours that I will be using for her character.

The human condition is a term that describes the characteristics of human existence including experience and behavior. This then led me to link it to nature because the norms within nature can represent it more than anything in the world. This then lets me to think about all the different aspects of the human condition:
- regret
- change
- truth
- change
- spirituality
- fear
- freedom
- life
- death
- motality
- emotion
- time
- beauty
These are some of the themes that will be considered and further developed. For now, I am leaning towards to the theme of spirituality, life, death and change because I am visualizing some kind of thing(s) or situation that can represent the circle of life with these four elements contributing to this idea. This would then be formed in a dream-like as it is a representative that is formed with the unconsciousness of our minds.

Nature refers to the phenomena of the physical world, and also to life in general, which links soley to the idea of the human condition as it represents many different things. Some things that I am considering for the context of my painting include:
- water
- roses
- trees
- garden
- graveyard
- butterfly
- dolphin
Right now in my vision I see a girl riding a butterfly. This vision hit me because I have dreamt countless of times that I have ridden a butterfly. I want to add an ocean as the girl riding the butterfly over it. I have decided to exagerate the butterfly, by making it a human size butterfly. This vision is very fun, enthusiastic. But as I vision the positive parts, I start adding some contrasting elements of nature such as a withering red and black roses, moths, poppies, broken branches. So in this vision, although it seems peaceful and funas the girl and the butterfly glide through the water, these contrasting symbols are representing the mortality and the passing of time as it is going to be placed in the painting to contrast with the young girl, and forshadow the end of her life.

And this form from the dream can be reflected through the previous Dali painting of the butterfly ship, where there are people-like figures at the bottom. Aside from the body, as I have metion, I will be giving wings. Wings are delicate ojects, and since I am reflecting on the environment, I think that it is imprtant to give her wings nature elemnts such as trees, garden, small animals, garden, and flowers. But also adding pieces of human-made things, to represent the entire life in general. For the outside layer of the wing, i would combine the 4 main elements of nature, which are water, fire, soil and wind. In order to portray these elements, I will demonstrate them through the techniques in the painting.

After careful consideration with the characters 'she' and 'he',I have developed a base for the story. Here we can see 'she' on the left and 'he' on the right. 'He' is asking for answers to why he was abandoned to the human world, where he could have become a God himself. 'She' responded that he couldn't do so because your heart has turned dark because you have become selfish and unkind, therefore you couldn't become a God. 'he' then says: "but you chose me!" 'she'then says with patience:"You had something special, you cared for others (reflected from the cocoon on the right), so I sent you down to earth to test you, but on earth you used other people's kindness for your selfish self. " 'He' then realized that he had to do something to become a God, take her essence away from her, so he gave the signal to his servants, and they grabbed on hold of her essence.

From the continuation of Dali research, his works all had something in common, they represented one way or another of time. The main element he uses is the clock representation. Therefore I added that big element as inspiration for my painting. I have drawn half of the clock for the background as the sun, because the sun is represented as time, but he sun doesn't show one thing, the exact time, therefore I let the clock point to 11:56, 4 minutes before midnight, 4 represents death in the Chinese culture, which would add that intense feeling from the painting. I have also drawn water, to symbolize the passing of time from the past to the present and eventually to the future.

I have developed another character to fit in my vision for the story, and that is 'he'.'He' will represent the dynamic charcter in this piece, where the only thing trait that will show through his form, is his hunger for revenge, that's why I have decided to give him claws, and it's in a shape that seems like he is wanting something, which is the intention. He will also represent the bridge of the two 'worlds' but since he is the dynamic character, he is now leaning towards the human side, he represents humans selfishness because compared to the rest of the elements on earth, humans are superior beings. In my story, I want to include his past, which has a close relation to 'she' that will be explained later on.
- Form -
His form is very similar to 'she', but the difference is that he his wings are dried out. I want to illustrate the selfishness in his hear now has been released to others, which spread into the essence of his wings. I am also thinking that I could make the wings go bent down , so that it explicitly shows to the audience, that something had happened to him.

Now I have drawn the sketch onto the canvas and started the painting process. Firstly, I had painted the sky light blue to show the pure nature. Then, as contrast, I have drawn clouds in black and gray, to represent the darkness of what humans do. Therefore, creating that juxtaposition effect. For the clouds specifically, I have first placed them using black watercolour to frame the shape, and then mixing with gray to create the shading. After I have placed the clouds, I went over again and added white, to create highlight, so that it still gives the cloudy feeling.
For my next step of the sky, I want to adjust the light blue sky and make it more playful, so that it further adds the playfulness of nature. Maybe some blend of pink or purple.
