Although Chicago occupies these flaws, the people stand firm. I visualize a run down city with discord as many people within the city do not share the same ideals. The city thrives with pride despite the chaos. I also see a city with displaced guns and warning signs. I envision bustling streets with stains that never leave and a large amount of smoke due to the rise of industrial cities.

The neighbor tells the author that "Good fences make good neighbors." This makes the author think, why do good walls make good neighbors? The author is stuck in pondering the meaning of the wall and the line that his neighbor always tells him.
