Winston then goes back into reality that the proles are too clueless to overthrow the Party because they’re blinded by the control. The Party manipulates people through telescreens and constantly reminds people how life is better now than it was before the Revolution. Winston also points out a contrast between reality and what the Party wants its memebers to believe. There’s no way to tell whether what they want you to believe is the truth or not. He longs for intimacy with a woman, but he’s not able to achieve that because he’s no longer w/ his wife and  the Party does not allow promiscuity between Party members. The Party looks at sexual intimacy as something disgusting, their aim is to prevent men and women from forming relationships. They only see marriage as something that benefits them, all marriages had to be approved by the Party and there had to be a purpose(make children to service them). The Party’s goal is to kill sex instinct and Winston yearns for intimacy.
