Published in the August 1970 National Geographic, this map charts the stars in the northern and southern skies, takes a closer look at constellations, and gives details about a few of the planets in our solar system. I'm unsure if there were any particular events that prompted the release of this map (along with "Map of the Heavens with Monthly Star Charts for Both Hemispheres" in the same issue), however there are two notable events. Earlier in 1970 on April 11th, NASA launched Apollo 13. August 1970 is also dawning on the 11th anniversary of the Moon Landing (September 13th, 1959), possibly for which National Geographic released a similar map of the moon in February of 1969.
