         <description><![CDATA[<div>Tuvalu was originally inhabited by Hawaiians. For many years Tuvalu was known as the Ellice Islands. Most beachcombers and merchants chose to live there. Later Tuvalu became a British colony with the Micronesian Gilberts. Because of this, Tuvalu became more developed from British funds. However Tuvalu became an independent country in 1978.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Feasts and other activities featuring traditional dancing and music, are often held at the Maneapas (meeting houses), which are the focal point of the community. Each Maneapa is unique, and some are highly ornate. Christianity has exerted a strong influence in the islands. Sundays are a day of rest and church attendance, and visitors are asked to be discreet in their choice of activities. The key national celebration is Independence Day on 1 October, 1978.</div>]]></description>
