Do I think they will ever change?  My family defiantly affects my beliefs, from wanting to please them to growing up with what they believe in. Another factor on what affects my beliefs is social media, everyday I will see something that sparks my beliefs. I personally think that race discrimination is both intrinsic and taught. As you grow up you are going to categorize people by their skin color but you are also taught it by the people around you when they for example don't like someone because they are black. Being for affirmative action is saying that you think we should level the playing field for people of color as an example by giving them better chances at getting into a college. Being against it means you want EVERYONE to have an equal chance, you still believe that people of color should have a chance but you want everyone to have a fair chance. Do you remember learning any growing up?  We learn gender roles in movies/tv shows, and the society we grow up in. For example, it is frowned upon for a male to cry or show emotion. I believe that it depends on what you do, if you say a swear word at school it is just a little thing that possibly deserves a detention and most. But if you go out and rob a bank or murder someone you are obviously going to go to jail but I believe that prison needs to be better made. When you are put in prison you are just there. You are not put into a counseling group to help better yourself, you are just treated like an animal. Why? I personally think that deviance is rising in the United States. Since before you could even remember, we lived by rules and laws. Throughout time we realized that we don't want to be kept in place like a caged animal. We felt like we had to follow all of these social rules, women couldn't wear revealing clothes or you couldn't dye your hair a crazy color. People started "acting out" by doing their own thing, people started being themselves and not caring about social norms.
