Something I see said about a lot of people who are like me and are on the Autism Spectrum is that we tend to be seen as dumb or lesser than because we don't understand things like most people do. People make fun of it because it's different and this can lead to kids with autism being bullied into suicide. The suicide rate is higher among Autistic people than of neurotypical people.

The danger of a single story is that it stereotypes a place or person without mentioning the other positives or negatives about that place or person. Ms. Adichie says that before she went to Mexico she had a "single story" of Mexico that it was full of cartel members and people trying to cross the U.S border for a better life. When she went to Mexico she found out that the people there were laughing with each other, having a good time, and going to work like we do in the U.S. Another example comes from when she went to visit her "house boy" Fide. She only heard that he was poor so that was all she say of him. When she went to his families house she saw that they had a beautiful basket made by Fide's brother. Everyone in Fide's family was hard working and nothing like she originally thought because of the "Single story"

People with ignorant thoughts, would consider every Mexican/Hispanics as just immigrants trying to be sneaky and cross the border illegally. Ms.Adichie even admitted that she thought Mexico wasn't going to be what she expected but once she went to visit, she realized that they are just normal people like everyone else. The danger of it, is that people are quick to assume and people begin to make arguments and make other people look bad through medias.

Kathryn G. - The danger in it is not only listening to the single story and being ignorant, but also retelling these stories without end and spreading it more, without doing further research if the story is actually true. As Ms. Adichie had stated, the western version of africa has affected many, up to the point that if there even is an authentic story of africa, it just will never really be accepted as an actual " authentic " african story. It also blinds people of any possible sides of the story, creating so many stereotypes which then makes everything so awkward when they finally learn the real sides of things.
