Hikmah (wisdom) is a gift from Allah and is highly valued in Islam. It is the ability to apply knowledge in the best manner, making sound judgments, and acting with righteousness. Here’s how one can acquire hikmah:

1. Seeking Knowledge with Sincerity

Learn from the Qur’an and Sunnah as they are the ultimate sources of wisdom.

Study the lives of the Prophets, Sahabah, and great scholars to understand how they applied wisdom.

Always seek knowledge with a pure intention for the sake of Allah.

2. Strengthening Connection with Allah

Increase in Taqwa (God-consciousness) – Allah says:

"And whoever has taqwa of Allah, He will make for him a way out." (Surah At-Talaq 65:2)

Perform solat with khusyuk, as it purifies the heart and mind.

Engage in constant dhikr (remembrance of Allah) for clarity of thought.

3. Practicing Patience & Reflection

True wisdom requires patience (sabr) in dealing with life’s challenges.

Reflect on experiences and learn from mistakes.

Avoid reacting impulsively; instead, analyze situations before speaking or acting.

4. Associating with the Righteous

Keep company with pious and knowledgeable individuals who inspire wisdom.

Listen to scholars, elders, and people of experience to gain insights.

Stay away from environments that encourage ignorance and foolishness.

5. Acting with Justice & Kindness

Always be fair and just, even when dealing with those who oppose you.

Speak with wisdom and good manners, as commanded in the Qur’an:

“Invite to the way of your Lord with wisdom and good instruction...” (Surah An-Nahl 16:125)

Help others selflessly, as true wisdom is in serving humanity.

6. Making Du’a for Hikmah

Ask Allah sincerely for wisdom, as He grants it to whom He wills:

“He gives wisdom to whom He wills, and whoever has been given wisdom has certainly been given much good...” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:269)

A recommended du’a:
اللهم إني أسألك الحكمة وفصل الخطاب
Allahumma inni as'aluka al-hikmata wa fasl al-khitab.
(O Allah, I ask You for wisdom and eloquence in speech.)

Conclusion

Hikmah is not just knowledge, but the ability to apply it correctly. It requires faith, patience, learning, reflection, and good character. By following these steps, one can gradually develop wisdom in their daily life.

THE VIRTUE OF SALAH WITH KHUSYUK

Salah performed with khusyuk (deep concentration, humility, and sincerity) holds immense spiritual and worldly benefits. Here are some of the virtues found in it:

1. Attaining Success in Both Worlds

Allah promises success to those who pray with khusyuk:

“Certainly will the believers have succeeded. They who are during their prayer humbly submissive (with khusyuk).”
(Surah Al-Mu’minun 23:1-2)

This success includes peace of heart, clarity of mind, and ultimate success in the Hereafter.

2. Salah with Khusyuk Wipes Away Sins

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“When a Muslim performs wudu properly and prays two rak’ahs with full attention and humility, his past sins will be forgiven.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, 158)

Every sincere salah cleanses the soul, removing minor sins and purifying the heart.

3. Brings Inner Peace and Tranquility

Salah with khusyuk calms the mind, removes anxiety, stress, and sadness.

Allah says:

“Indeed, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.”
(Surah Ar-Ra’d 13:28)

When performed with full focus, salah becomes a source of comfort instead of a routine obligation.

4. Increases Taqwa (God-Consciousness)

Regular khusyuk in salah strengthens the connection with Allah and increases fear of disobeying Him.

A person who prays with khusyuk is more likely to stay away from sins and immorality:

“Indeed, prayer prevents immorality and wrongdoing.”
(Surah Al-Ankabut 29:45)

5. Brings Nearness to Allah

The closest a person can be to Allah is during sujood (prostration).

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“The closest that a servant comes to his Lord is when he is prostrating, so increase in supplication.”
(Sahih Muslim, 482)

A salah with khusyuk deepens one’s relationship with Allah and increases acceptance of duas.

6. Earns Great Rewards in the Hereafter

The Prophet ﷺ mentioned that salah will be the first thing judged on the Day of Judgment:

“The first action for which a servant of Allah will be held accountable on the Day of Judgment is his prayer. If it is good, then the rest of his deeds will be good…”
(Sunan Abi Dawood, 864)

Those who establish salah with khusyuk will enter Jannah without reckoning by Allah’s mercy.

7. Distinguishes the Believers from Hypocrites

Salah with khusyuk is a sign of true faith, while those who pray absentmindedly are warned:

“So woe to those who pray, but who are heedless of their prayer.”
(Surah Al-Ma’un 107:4-5)

True believers find joy in salah, while hypocrites see it as a burden.

Conclusion

Performing salah with khusyuk transforms it from a mere ritual into a soulful conversation with Allah. It brings peace, forgiveness, success, and nearness to Allah, elevating one’s rank in both this life and the Hereafter.

IBRAH FOR FASTING DURING RAMADHAN

Fasting in Ramadhan is not just about abstaining from food and drink; it is a spiritual, moral, and social training that teaches valuable lessons. Here are some key ibrah (lessons) from fasting:

1. Strengthening Taqwa (God-Consciousness)

Allah says:

“O you who have believed, fasting is prescribed upon you as it was prescribed upon those before you, that you may attain taqwa.”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:183)

Fasting teaches self-discipline, making a person more aware of Allah’s presence in their daily actions.

2. Teaching Patience and Self-Control

Fasting requires patience in hunger, thirst, and emotions (anger, frustration, etc.).

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Fasting is half of patience.”
(Sunan Ibn Majah, 1745)

This patience extends beyond Ramadan, making a person stronger in facing life’s challenges.

3. Developing Gratitude (Shukr)

When we feel hunger, we realize the blessings of food, water, and comfort that we often take for granted.

Allah reminds us to be grateful:

“If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]...”
(Surah Ibrahim 14:7)

Fasting teaches contentment with what we have and appreciation for Allah’s countless blessings.

4. Purifying the Soul and Increasing Iman

Fasting cleanses the heart from bad habits and distractions.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Whoever fasts Ramadan with faith and seeking reward, his past sins will be forgiven.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, 38)

It is a time to renew one’s faith and strengthen the connection with Allah.

5. Developing Empathy for the Less Fortunate

Fasting makes us feel the hunger that the poor experience daily.

It encourages acts of charity, kindness, and helping others.

The Prophet ﷺ was most generous during Ramadan (Sahih al-Bukhari, 1902).

6. Improving Discipline and Time Management

Ramadan structures our daily routine (suhoor, iftar, tarawih, etc.).

This discipline helps in managing time effectively even after Ramadan.

7. Strengthening Family and Community Bonds

Families eat suhoor and iftar together, strengthening relationships.

Praying tarawih in congregation fosters unity and brotherhood in the Muslim community.

Helping others during Ramadan increases love and unity among Muslims.

8. Teaching Sincerity (Ikhlas) in Worship

Fasting is a private act of worship between a person and Allah.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Fasting is for Me, and I will reward it.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, 1904)

It strengthens sincerity because only Allah knows if a person is truly fasting.

9. Breaking Bad Habits

Ramadan is an opportunity to quit smoking, gossiping, overeating, and other bad habits.

It trains us to control our desires and live a healthier, purer life.

10. Preparation for the Hereafter

Fasting reminds us of the temporary nature of this world.

The hunger and difficulty remind us of the Day of Judgment, where people will seek Allah’s mercy.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“There is a gate in Paradise called Ar-Rayyan, through which only those who fast will enter...”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, 1896)

Conclusion

Fasting in Ramadan is not just about avoiding food; it is a training for the soul, mind, and body. It teaches taqwa, patience, gratitude, empathy, sincerity, and self-control—values that should remain with us even after Ramadan ends.

Hikmah (wisdom) in ibadah (worship) refers to understanding the deeper purpose behind acts of worship and performing them with sincerity and insight. Here’s an overview of the reasons why hikmah is essential in ibadah and its sources in Islam.

🔹 Reasons for Hikmah in Ibadah

1. To Fulfill the Purpose of Creation

Allah created humans to worship Him with understanding and devotion.

Allah says:

“And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me.”
(Surah Adh-Dhariyat 51:56)

Worship with hikmah helps one connect beyond rituals and develop a true relationship with Allah.

2. To Strengthen Taqwa (God-Consciousness)

Worship is not just an action; it builds taqwa (piety and mindfulness of Allah).

Allah commands:

“O you who believe! Worship your Lord… so that you may attain taqwa.”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:21)

When ibadah is done with wisdom, it purifies the soul and keeps the heart firm in faith.

3. To Bring Inner Peace and Tranquility

Ibadah done with hikmah provides comfort in times of hardship.

Allah says:

“Indeed, in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest.”
(Surah Ar-Ra’d 13:28)

Salah, dhikr, and fasting help in reducing stress and strengthening patience.

4. To Ensure Acceptance of Worship

Worship without understanding or sincerity may not be accepted.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Indeed, Allah does not accept deeds except those that are done sincerely for His sake.”
(Sunan an-Nasa’i, 3140)

Hikmah ensures intention (niyyah) is pure, leading to greater rewards.

5. To Develop Good Character and Morals

True ibadah improves behavior and keeps a person away from sins.

Allah says about Salah:

“Indeed, prayer prevents immorality and wrongdoing.”
(Surah Al-Ankabut 29:45)

Fasting, zakat, and other acts of worship train the heart to be humble and generous.

6. To Strengthen the Ummah (Muslim Community)

Worship with hikmah fosters unity and brotherhood.

Congregational prayers, Hajj, and fasting during Ramadan bring Muslims together and strengthen relationships.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“The believers, in their mutual kindness, compassion, and sympathy, are just like one body...”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, 6011)

🔹 Sources of Hikmah for Ibadah

1. The Qur’an – Primary Source of Wisdom

Allah describes the Qur’an as a book of hikmah:

“These are the verses of the Book of Wisdom.”
(Surah Luqman 31:2)

Understanding the Qur’an helps a person perform ibadah with depth and sincerity.

2. The Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ

The Prophet ﷺ was the best example of how to worship with hikmah.

He said:

“Pray as you have seen me pray.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, 631)

Studying the Prophet’s life teaches the purpose and inner meanings of ibadah.

3. Du’a and Seeking Guidance from Allah

Wisdom is a gift from Allah that can be asked for.

Allah says:

“He gives wisdom to whom He wills, and whoever has been given wisdom has certainly been given much good...”
(Surah Al-Baqarah 2:269)

A recommended du’a for hikmah:
اللهم إني أسألك الحكمة وحسن العبادة
Allahumma inni as’aluka al-hikmata wa husna al-‘ibadah.
(O Allah, I ask You for wisdom and excellence in worship.)

4. Knowledge from Scholars & Righteous People

Learning from ulama (scholars) and righteous companions helps in developing hikmah in ibadah.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“When Allah wishes good for someone, He gives him understanding of the religion.”
(Sahih al-Bukhari, 71)

Seeking authentic Islamic knowledge ensures worship is performed correctly and wisely.

5. Reflection and Self-Discipline

Pondering over creation, past mistakes, and future goals helps a person refine their ibadah.

Allah encourages reflection:

“Do they not reflect within themselves?”
(Surah Ar-Rum 30:8)

Keeping oneself accountable improves sincerity and focus in worship.

🔹 Conclusion

Hikmah in ibadah helps a believer worship Allah with sincerity, purpose, and understanding. It strengthens faith, character, and community bonds, leading to true success in this life and the Hereafter.

By seeking wisdom from the Qur’an, Sunnah, scholars, and personal reflection, one can enhance their ibadah and get closer to Allah.
