Afros, braids, blow outs, relaxers, and curls are all the ways that girls of color can get their hair. And do you know why? Because of Madame CJ Walker. Madame CJ Walker was the first Black Woman Millionaire in the United States. She helped to create products that helped our hair go from bland to glam. Our hair thanks you Madame CJ Walker.

Do you become overwhelmed during the day? Let me ask this question, how is your mindset? Before we can discover our mindset, we need to understand how our brains function. Our brains have over 100 billion neurons (specialized cell sending nerve impulses). Our brain is a muscle that needs exercised every day. We need to feed our brains with positive thoughts, this is called a mindset.

People usually fit into either a fixed mindset or a growth mindset. Read to discover where you fall. Fixed mindsets believe they are either good at something or not, avoid challenges, make mistakes, feel threatened when others do well. Growth mindsets believe they can become smarter, embrace a challenge, learn from mistakes, and are inspired by others who have succeeded.

We talk to our brains all the time; what we tell our brains help guide our decisions. This can affect your mindset. So, let us all work on having a growth mindset at Leadership Preparatory Charter School!

Gil Scott-Heron, often crowned as the "Godfather of Rap," was a pioneering figure in black culture and music. His work transcended traditional genres, blending jazz, blues, and spoken word poetry to create a unique sound that resonated deeply with the African American community and beyond. Scott-Heron's influence on the rap genre is undeniable, as his rhythmic spoken word performances laid the groundwork for the development of hip-hop.
