"............., it was conceded early on in the Dogme world that the coursebook can be seen as part of the ‘classroom furniture’, and later on that modern technology can also find a home. In the last ten years, there has been a technological revolution in teaching materials and techniques, not least with the appearance of the coursebook on the interactive whiteboard. ‘Dogme 2.0’, as I understand it, is the acceptance of the reality of a continual updating of the technological world in ELT and, to some extent, an actual embracing of it. The whole world is at our fingertips now, and we can conjure up any material we want in a few clicks.

Thus the ‘three Ts’ (texts, tasks and themes) that we were encouraged to cherry-pick from the coursebook in early Dogme practice, have now become the things that we, teacher and students, can cherry-pick from the (interactive) book, the internet or our own personal digital data during the Dogme class. Students have always been invited to bring in their own material; now they can bring in so much more and do so much more easily. The coursebook has receded to its rightful place as just one more piece of the learning environment that we can exploit as and when we want to, and it is the students who have become the principal source material – in themselves or via their personal electronic devices. The challenge, as I see it, is keeping the class focused on the ‘lesson’, rather than being distracted or diffracted by technology."
