  • March 1959 - Ho Chi Minh declared all out war in order to unite Vietnam under one rule.
  • December 1961 - US military joined the war
  • August 1964 - The Gulf of Tonkin Resolution is passed by the US Congress. 
  • March 8, 1965 - The first official US combat troops arrive in Vietnam. 
  • January 30, 1968 - North Vietnam  attacks around 100 cities in Southern Vietnam.
  • July 1969 - President Nixon begins the withdrawal of US troops.
  • March 1972 - The North Vietnamese attack across the border in the Easter Offensive
  • March 29,1973-the last U.S. combat troops left South Vietnam.
