Sigmund Freud, a famous psychologist, is known as the founder of the unconscious mind. He described the mind as the Id, ego, and superego. The Id is made up of basic impulses that Freud believed consisted of sex and violence. This was the unconscious mind. The superego shows good ideas and morals; it strives for perfection. This is a bar that separates the id from the ego. It says what the id wants is wrong, and the best way to describe the ego is that it is a compromise between them. This is often referred to as an ideology of an iceberg, having different levels under, level to, and above the sea.

Carl Jung, friends with Sigmond Freud, was also a skilled psychologist. He believed in the collective unconscious, which means everyone's unconscious is linked together. He also recognized people to be made up of 12 main archetypes. These archetypes were believed to be found in the collective unconscious. Carl Jung also wrote several books discussing his theories, research, and findings.

Criticism on Jung and Freud's views.

People did not always see eye to eye with Freud and Jung. Many things they did were frowned upon. For example, one who is very religious may profoundly disagree with Freud's option to pursue hypnotherapy. Sigmond Freud and Carl Jung were criticized throughout their whole journey as scientists, but what throws most people off is that they criticized each other. Most of their theories contradicted each other, making it hard for them to work together after awhile.

Sigmond Freud impacted the arts because dreams were also a big part of his adventure in psychology. Dreams are often very surreal, and this is also a popular art form. Carl Jung also influenced arts with his studies. He believed that art had a significant influence on the collective unconscious. Jung wrote many books talking about his studies and findings, even with art. He had made one book with all kinds of information and even his art inside of it. This book was known as "The Red Book."
