Week 1

This was my first week in chem class. My first impression of this was that it was going to be hard since I knew almost nothing about chemistry, but I was proved wrong. On the first meeting we were introduced to our wonderful teacher, Ms. Carren, who explained what chemistry is like, and told us that it's not as hard of a subject as we thought. She also explained to us the concepts of matter and Dalton's atomic theory. Although I didn't do much in the first week, I learned a lot and had fun.

Week 2

This was the first week of our 2 week synchronous class. On this week we discussed naming inorganic compounds such as acids, ionic compounds, and binary molecular compounds. During our lesson I was also very distracted.

In our third session we had a seatwork on the discussed topics, which I flunked at the first attempt with a score of 11/20. This encouraged me to read the topic again. On my second attempt I got a higher score of 16/20, but since I had three attempts, and the last attempt was the recorded score I studied again and took the quiz. This time I had a very high score of 19/20, and I think my only mistake was that I named HCl as HCI since I tought chlorine was Hi.

Week 3

This is the last week of online classes and we discussed writing and balancing chemiclal equations. I was also distracted during discussions this week.

Week 4

We're finally back in campus. this week we discussed the types of chemical reactions and had a seatwork about it. It also included our past week lesson. At first I struggled with it, but I eventually finished. When we checked the seatwork, and I saw my performance, I was disappointed. Because of my carelessness I forgot to balance the equations. This gave me 5 mistakes, which I could have avoided.

Week 5

We discussed basic basic stoichiometry. In this topic we learned about molar mass, interconverting moles, mass, and number of chemical entities. I did not understand any one of these topics except for calculating molar mass. After class I tried watching one of The Organic Chemistry Teacher's tutorial videos, but easily loss interest. By the end of the week I still didn't understand the basics of stoichiometry.

Week 6

This was the week where we discussed the second part of our stoichiometry lesson. At this point I still didn't understand much about stoich, which made it difficult for me to understand the lesson. And again by the end of this week I still didn't understand anything about the lesson. The only difference was that this time I was planning on studying since we had a long test coming up.

Week 7

This was the week of the long test. At Sunday, the beginning of the week I started studying. i studied for about 30 minutes, and still had a hard time understanding stoich. I decided to take a break of about 3 hours as a reward for studying for only 30 minutes. After my break I studied again, but this time I approached the topic with a fresh and new mindset. I think it was a miracle, but when I looked at the sample equation I suddenly knew how it worked, and after practicing by solving equations for ten minutes, I mastered it. When test day came I was quite confident, but also nervous. For me, the test wasn't that hard, but there were parts where I was unsure of like the the single displacement part and the multiple choice. In the end I was happy with my performance, since I think I had enough point to pass. after this test I came to love chem more.
