After looking at an eclipse, Turner decided it was time to take action. He had about 80 followers and they managed to attack 4 plantations and kill 60 white men before being captured by state and federal troops. Turner however, hid for weeks until he was found, tried, and hanged.

In 1803, The United States decided to buy Louisiana and the territory include from France for $15 million. After a vote in Virginia,  they agreed to tighten the rules and security. That meant no more teaching the slaves how to read and write and not allowing them to preach.
