It is suspected they died of Typhus (a disease formed after bacteria got on the human body usually transferred by lice or fleas.)

Germany Surrendering:
 On May 7, 1945, Germany officially surrendered to the Allies, bringing an end to the European conflict in World War II. Since Hitler was supposed to commit suicide he made Karl Dönitz was made leader of the Nazis. Karl Dönitz ordered General Alfred Jodl, signed the surrender of both east and west forces in Reims, France, which would take effect the following day. 
The reason of the surrender was the Soviets were approaching the German capital of Berlin from the east and the Western Allies were approaching it from the west. Knowing that defeat was in place, they were made surrender.

Winston Churchill was the prime minister of Britain. He was most known for his inspiring speeches especially the one he made in the room with all of his colleagues saying that he should make Britain surrender. The Germans had took over most of Europe including France and had planed to take over Great Britain but they needed to destroy the Royal air-force first . It started on the 10th of July 1940.Hitler eventually stopped bombing Britain because he needed to save the bombs for invading Russia. Over the course of four years, more than 400 Red Army and German divisions clashed in a series of actions along a front that extended more than 1,000 miles. 27 million Soviet soldiers and civilians and nearly 4 million German troops lost their lives along the Eastern Front during those years of brutality.
This didn't work because the Maginot Line at the top of France and the Allies and Soviets left a gap in between, but the Nazi's  went around France and worked up. Although the French thought their plan was foolproof it wasn't and the Germans overtook France.

Why Did Japan Surrender?
Japan surrendered because after the atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Japan feared that the Nazi's would do something worse. Therefore the Japanese signed the "Potsdam Declaration for unconditional surrender".

D Day happened 74 years ago today the 6/6/1944. American troops invaded the beaches of Normandy, France.An American General Dwight D.Eisenhower. D-Day was the largest dangerous invasion in history. More than 160,000 Allied troops about half of them Americans invaded Western Europe, overwhelming German forces in an operation that proved to be a turning point in World War II. They sent the Germans back to Berlin.
