Realize that rudeness is nothing new.
-Rudeness seems to be part of human nature. Rudeness is nothing new, but that doesn't mean we have to continue the cycle of meanness and anger.
2. Never Send Spam
-Stop circulating the chain letters and rumors that make the Internet a time waster.
3.Don’t Type in ALL CAPS
-In online communication, ALL CAPS is considered yelling. This is not a way to emphasize what you are saying. It is rude and can be considered offensive. If you need to emphasize something, use italics or bold typeface instead of all caps.
4. Identify Yourself
-Identify yourself in online communications, like email. Let the recipient know who you are. Don’t forget to sign the email at the end. Treat the email with the same professionalism you would use with a written communication.
5. Be respectful.
- Everyone has different feelings and opinions and it is important to respect this online. You may wish to comment on something someone has shared but always remember that behind every account is a real person. If you wouldn’t say it to someone’s face, the internet is not the place to say it either.
6.Be forgiving. The online world can be very different from the offline world so try to be understanding of others when they struggle with online communication. If you see something online that you don’t think is appropriate, you can use reporting tools to flag it to the site’s safety team.

On the internet, it's generally true that we are communicating with someone whom we cannot see, and who cannot see us. That means our choice of words become even more important, because we are unable to read their facial expressions, body language or hear their tone of voice. Our words must be very appropriately convey our intended message for we know that words are powerful. If you have notice, there are uncountable instances that misunderstanding took place in the internet and quarrel follow. This is because people did not fully understand that their choice of words, how they deliver that words matters a lot. That is why it is important to learn and practice etiquettes. Etiquettes make you look more polished, sophisticated, and mature. People would feel more comfortable interacting with you, connect with you, and would be more likely to recommend you to others if you apply those. Etiquette in internet is called netiquette which pertains to socially acceptable behaviors online, this will help you stay safe and respected online, thus will be your sword and shield when you got into trouble.
I know that many people don't want trouble, either in real or digital world, and it is evident because we avoid heated arguments as long as we can, but sometimes we end up on chaos, misunderstanding and trouble that leads to online rudeness of each party. Rudeness is bad, either it's online or face-to-face. I, myself don't want to experience it but we can't guarantee that. If you may, I have some tips on how should you avoid and fight online rudeness and help bring courtesy and respect back to the web.
I would say first be respectful, respect other peoples' opinion -- you don't need to accept their opinion or believe to what they believe, just simply respect it. Respect their privacy, the way you want yours to be respected. Respect their works -- this includes acknowledging them or giving them the credits for their work. Respect their rights. Respect doesn't choose any gender, age or status, it is also free so why not give it to all, in such way, they too will respect you, as they say, respect begets respect.
Next is practice the golden rule. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. So don't send spam, don't cyberbully or harasst anyone, don't be little anyone. Treat people the way you would like to be treated, and you will avoid quite a number of potential problems. Remember, on the other side of that computer screen is a real person with thoughts and feelings just like you, so talk to them with kindness.
Then be private, not just about your passwords and accounts but also to the information you share. To remind you, do not overshare something especially to those people in social media, convo screenshot is a trend and can be use against you. I have noticed that poeple are likely to believe someone if that person have screenshot, even if it wasn't the whole truth. So don't tell anyone anything that might ruin you at the end.
Be yourself both in real and digital world. Don't impersonate anyone just to impress someone, let them be impress by who you truly are. If they don't, who cares, it is much better that way.
Think before you click and pause before you post. Take time to review your choice of words, don't use all caps lock because it means you're shouting. Take time to think if this post could hit someone's ego, if that humor can be sarcasm, if it will, you better paraphrase it. Take time to check your grammar, punctuations and spellings, don't get me wrong with this, you don't have to be perfect in social media, you just have to be accurate because some people will judge you just because of this, you might get in trouble.
Then if you are already in the midst of trouble, learn and practice calmness, it's a power. If you are calm, you can think very well, you can choose appropriate words to use, you will know who and what to ignore because not all are worth your attention, you will also know when to stop, not because you lose just it's unnecessary.
And lastly, forgive. We are all human, we all commit mistakes. If that people did something suspicious on social media before and appeared really wrong, forgive him. Forgive those people who ask for forgiveness, also those who don't. Forgive not because they deserve forgiveness but because you deserve peace.
The power of the Internet has created a world where communication takes place through a screen, rather than in person. It’s critical that you practice good manners and have your netiquette in hand every time you go online and interact with people. And those are only some of the netiquettes you can practice to avoid getting trouble online.

We are now living in the digital era. Most of our activities involve the internet, and a lot of us spend a lot of time communicating using it and other technologies. As we opened our lives to the digital world, we became prone to online scrutiny as well. There will be instances where we will experience rudeness, cyberbullying, and other forms of harassment.

Here are some of my netiquette practices that we can use to address online rudeness and bring back courtesy and respect on the web:

1. USE RESPECTFUL LANGUAGE
Respect begets respect. Whenever we are online, we should always keep in mind to respect others. We shouldn't have too much entitlement in everything. Using respectful language helps us communicate in the best possible way. It prevents conflicts and misunderstandings with our fellow netizens. The way we communicate online is very much different from how we do it in person. We don't see or hear the factors that describe the intent and mood of each other; that's why it's important to use respectful language always.

2. PRACTICE THE USE OF CLEAR LANGUAGES
Be reminded that when posting or communicating online, always go for clarity and direct to-the-point writing. It's important to make sure that our ways of communicating are clear. We should avoid the usage of slang and abbreviations, especially if the person that we are dealing with is not yet close to us. Slangs and abbreviations do not always mean the same thing to every person, hence we must be careful when using them. On the contrary, if we are only talking to our friends who know us already, I think it's okay to use these slangs and abbreviations depending on our ways of communication with them.

3. USE EMOTICONS WHENEVER APPROPRIATE
As we communicate digitally, our intentions and moods can be interpreted in many different ways. It can have positive or negative connotations. That is why using emoticons are of great help in digital communication. It helps us to express our feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. The facial expressions and human gestures represented in it give us ideas and convey meaning to our conversation, which helps us avoid miscommunication. However, in formal communication, the use of emoticons are not advisable.

4. FACT CHECK ALWAYS
Nowadays, fake news is rampant. We don't know whether most of what we see online is true or not. Thus, it's important to research information relating to the article first. We should also verify the source and check if it's credible. Putting words next to a person's photo doesn't mean that he or she actually said them. But if he or she indeed said it, there's always more to the story, so don't just express your thoughts right away without analyzing the whole story. In addition, as netizens, we should also be responsible for the things we share or post online. Do not be a fake news peddler; instead, be an agent of truthful information.

5. RESPOND TO OTHERS
Being courteous will bring you a long way. If someone asks you something online or sends you a message, don't just ignore them. As much as possible, answer them or just simply acknowledge that you've seen their question or message. There are instances where we don't entertain it, so make sure to answer it appropriately, especially if it's really essential. However, if the content is rude or makes you uncomfortable, don't respond, and it's best to ignore it.

6. ALWAYS ASK FOR CONSENT
Asking for consent in all online interactions is very important. Whenever we want to post or share photos and videos of someone, we should always ask for their consent as a form of respect. It's best to make sure that the people involved are okay with it. And if they want you to remove something that you posted that involves them, do it without any questions asked. In addition, as netizens, we must also be smart. If we don't feel good about posting a picture of someone because we think that it will affect them, don't do it. We must respect each other's trust, choices, and confidentiality. Remember that once we post or share something online, we can lose control of it, and it can affect the mental health of the person involved if he or she doesn't want it to be shared or wants it removed online.

7. IGNORE AND BLOCK ONLINE HATERS
Don't react or respond to negative and hateful comments. Bullying and harassment are never okay. Block the haters; do not give them the avenue to bully you. If they're already threatening you, report them to authorities. Don't stoop to their level; be in control of your emotions. In addition, remind yourself that what your haters are saying is not a reflection of you but of their personalities. Your mental health is important, so don't deal with haters so much because that's what they live for: to see you weak. Keep being who you truly are and move forward but always acknowledge your feelings as well.

8. TREAT OTHERS HOW YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE TREATED
As I said earlier, respect begets respect. It goes both ways. If you're nice to someone, they are more likely to be nice to you too. As netizens, we must treat everyone online the same way we treat people face-to-face. By showing kindness, we can avoid conflicts with others, and we'll just be confronted with loads of positive energy always. Don't do something online if you don't want to do it in person, too. Information travels faster in the digital world, so let's be mindful of our actions online. We must acknowledge and accept others' ideas. But if we disagree with someone, make sure to address it in a civilized manner. Because you have an online reputation and you should remember to protect it as well.

9. THINK BEFORE YOU CLICK
A simple click can change your life. We cannot take back what we post or express online. That's why you should see to it that you always review your messages, comments, or posts before posting or sharing them. Strive to make it accurate and well-thought out. Do not just post something right away. Think carefully about the content before sharing or posting it. This idea of "think before you click" helps us individuals in limiting whatever we post online. It makes us cautious about what we share with the public. It also encourages us to use the internet responsibly and allows us to reflect on our choices and how they will affect others.

10. BE FORGIVING
Anyone can make a mistake, and everyone deserves to be forgiven. There will be moments where we commit mistakes online. We might also have experienced having a misunderstanding or argument with someone. It can also be that we experience harm from others. As responsible netizens, we must take a break, reflect on these mistakes, and ask for forgiveness afterwards. And if someone admits they were wrong and apologizes wholeheartedly to you, forgive them and give them another chance. Our mistakes will teach us lessons and allow us to grow to be a much better person.

The rules for online learning and classroom learning are virtually the same: You have to study, take notes, attend classes and participate in discussions. In the classroom, your words, gestures, posture and facial expressions communicate your thoughts and observations to your classmates and teachers. But how do you express yourself online, where the written word is all they see?

During your online degree program, you will frequently be asked to participate in online discussions and will occasionally do peer reviews of your classmates’ work. Here are 10 rules of netiquette that will help you successfully communicate as you learn online.

Make sure identification is clear in all communications. Begin with a salutation (“Hi, Jason!”) and end with your signature (“Hannah Kay, Criminology 101”).

Review what you wrote and try to interpret it objectively. When we speak face to face and are misunderstood, we have an on-the-spot opportunity to rephrase our words. In writing, we must strive twice as hard to be understood, as we do not have the benefit of modifying or elaborating in real time. All caps (“I’M SHOUTING”) and exclamation points (“Give me a break!!!”) can be misinterpreted as intense anger or humor without the appropriate context.

If you wouldn’t say it face to face, don’t say it online. When you’re working online, you’re safe behind a screen, but that’s no excuse to be ill-mannered or say things you would never say in public.

Don’t assume everyone understands where you’re coming from. Sarcasm and wit is often the spice of in-person conversation, but in online discussion, it can not only lose its edge, it can bite! In your high school classroom, all students were the same age, came from similar backgrounds and lived in the same area. In contrast, your online classroom is made up of people of all ages and cultures who have varied backgrounds, lifestyles and geographic locations. With this in mind, review what you wrote before contributing to the conversation and ask yourself, “Will everyone get the joke?”

Don’t spam. Please don’t take advantage of your connection with the other students in your online classroom to forward emails and links regarding your political/spiritual beliefs or to sell your services.

Use emoticons. In casual chatroom settings, emoticons can help convey feelings that may otherwise get lost in translation, including humor, exasperation, exhaustion and even confusion.

Respect others’ privacy. Don’t give out another student’s personal email address without permission.

Remember, if it’s on the internet, it’s everywhere. Don’t share personal information about yourself in a public online forum, especially something that could put your safety or security at risk.

Follow the rules. Just as your online college posts guidelines related to academic integrity and student expectations, online forums also have rules of conduct. Make a point to read them every time, as they can vary from class to class.

Forgive and forget. If you’re offended by something another student says online, keep in mind that you may have misunderstood their intentions. Give them the benefit of the doubt.

Reference: https://www.utep.edu/extendeduniversity/utepconnect/blog/october-2017/10-rules-of-netiquette-for-students.html
